Bringing nature into your home will increase your health, your optimism and fill your days with vitality. Thanks to a new trend that is gaining popularity around the world, a natural lake may be possible in your own garden.
It’s about the ecological poolsa construction method that recreates natural ecosystems. Instead of using chemical agents such as chlorine to disinfect, the properties of plants and rocks are used as natural filters..
There is nothing that nature does not provide, is the premise of the so-called “biopools”, which were born in Austria in 1984 and are a sustainable alternative that uses natural resources consciously and protects health by avoiding artificial products.
The designs have three sectors: the plants are located within the filtration zone, since they produce microorganisms that eliminate bacteria and algae. Submerged aquatic plants, floating, marginal or rooted plants are responsible for filtering, cleaning and naturally conserve pool water.
In addition, there is the oxygenation area, which has some suction technology, streams or waterfalls, and the swimming or bathing area, separated by a wall. This division, plus a slope and the help of a pump -which can work with solar energy- facilitates the circulation of water to prevent the development of larvae, mosquitoes or other insects.
What must be taken into account is that the plant area may have the presence of fish, toads or frogs; but due to the wall they will not pass into the bathing area and, favorably, they will eat the moss and avoid the fungi.
Benefits of natural pools
Due to its natural water regeneration system, swimming pools are a living organism like a lake or lagoontherefore they avoid skin, mucous membrane and hair problems caused by chemical disinfectants such as chlorine and algaecides.
Among its many benefits, we also find that ecological pools they save water because it is not changed, it is only replenished when it has evaporated. If they have stones, they transmit the sun’s heat to the water and maintain a pleasant temperature. All this fosters an environment conducive to harmony, relaxation and connection with nature.
To consider: bio pools are more expensive since they cannot be prefabricated, they must be built by experts in the field and designed for each particular garden. Although they do not deteriorate in winter, they do need some garden work in the filter zone to maintain themselves and some plants may need to be replaced due to the cold. The bottom of the swimming area and the pump should also be cleaned more frequently during the summer.
