When is World Food Day 2022

The World Food Day is celebrated every year on October 16. The date commemorates the anniversary of the founding of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, commonly known as FAO.

What does World Food Day mean?

The main meaning of World Food Day it is without a doubt, encourage the world population to take action against all problems related to with the theme. Problems ranging from poverty to malnutrition, from food security to agriculture and climate change. The variation of the themes begins in 1981, with the aim of highlighting all the areas that require preventive action. Most of the themes revolve around agriculture. This is because investments in agriculture, as well as in education and health, are the only ones that can transform this stagnation. As in any celebration, we remind you how important it is to act immediately and all together. Because we all, in our own way, can make a difference.

Adaptation to climate change is another important topic of the day. It involves changing the way food is produced and processed so that the planet remains capable of producing more in the future. This also implies help populations living in rural areas, since they are the most affected by the effects of the changes. Help them by preparing them, as much as possible, for increasingly frequent natural disasters, such as droughts or floods. There are many ways to end poverty and malnutrition, and one of them is to protect and help agriculture, especially sustainable agriculture. Origin of World Food Day

As we have already mentioned, World Food Day ccommemorates the founding of the FAO that was born on October 16, 1945 in Québec, Canada, by the will of 42 countries. The meaning and purpose of this institution is to fight against hunger and malnutrition and to confront the global food system. The origins of World Food Day go back to November 1979, during the XX General Conference of the Organization. It is established by the member countries of the FAO, although the Hungarian delegation played an important role. Since then, the celebration has been observed annually in more than 150 nations, highlighting a particular theme year after year.

What is the motto of World Food Day

The theme chosen for World Food Day in 2022 is “Safe food now for a healthy future.”
