Why should you have a camera case?

Yes, don’t get me wrong, I’m not saying that you don’t have to have a good kit with all the photographic accessories if you plan to take advantage of it, but I do think that you have to be very clear about what you are going to use on each occasion.

Is it worth always carrying the super backpack with me? all the photographic material that I have? At first it is difficult for us to select. Usually, selecting is an art, (especially select our photos 😉 ). The lack of experience means that we do not dare to leave the house without all the in case imaginable.

Do you need it all?

The experience will little by little you become more minimalist and learn to know what it is the essential.

Perhaps the essential thing is all the material you have because you are going to cover a wedding, or because you are going to photograph the Northern Lights or do a fashion shoot.

But in general, the essentials are you, your camera, a battery, a memory card and a lens. Nothing more. Seriously, nothing more. For the mere mortal who just wants to practice and take photos, that’s enough.

Why a camera case?

well i I speak from my own experience And I guess I’m not the only one who has gone through this process, because I’ve seen it in many other amateur photographers.

Carrying all the material on me made me lazy to take photos. At the beginning I carried everything that had been and to do. Then since he didn’t want to carry everything, he just didn’t carry anything. I didn’t take photos, I was lazy. Everything was too heavy for me.

I finally came to the conclusion that, in my case, I needed nothing more than my camera, my fixed lens, a battery, and a spare card. Nothing more. And so, I did notice that laziness disappeared to always go out with the camera in tow.

In that eagerness to simplify my life I didn’t have a backpack, just my camera with the lens mounted, like that, hanging in any way ;). I put it in my bag when I got tired, and walking. And of course, it’s not a plan either. Minimalism yes, equipment protection too 😉

So I came to the conclusion that I had to protect my equipment, but at the same time feel light. I already had a backpack, what I really wanted was just to protect my camera, so I came to the conclusion that what I needed was a camera case.

Advantage

For me, the advantages are clear: they are very light, they protect the equipment from bumps, dust, humidity, rain (if they are waterproof), scratches, etc.

They mostly have room for a battery and a memory card. In some cases a little more space for a filter, keys or mobile. Like everything in photography, you have many models ;).

You don’t have to scratch your pocket too much to have one; you can get a good cover at very good price (later I leave you some recommendations 😉 ).

In addition, removing the camera is an agile gesture, the covers are simple, open easily, and allow us to remove the camera without difficulty.

Definitely, They are ideal if you want to go out and take light photos, but without risking the equipment.

Disadvantages

go ahead that I don’t think the cover should replace a good backpack. I rather think that they are complementary. Most photographers, before specializing in something, we love to play around with different disciplines and try new things.

That is why we usually have equipment for more than one photographic style. Rarely, if our pocket allows it, we are left with only one type of lens or without a tripod, or without a good flash.

Sometimes, a cover will not be enough

There will be days that you really need to carry a good backpack with you, where there will be no place for minimalism because it would mean the failure of the photographic output.

It is clear that a photographic sleeve would not comply with an output of this type.

How to choose a good case for your camera?

• If we talk about protecting, try to make the case waterproof
• That has space for a memory card and a battery
• check that it is compatible with your type of camera
• Make sure the size is large enough to mount your largest lens
• Try to find a resistant material (nylon, neoprene, leather…)
• It is highly recommended that the camera not dance inside the cover, if not that it is well adjusted to it
• Ideally, it should have handles to hang it, not all of them have, although most do.

Although I don’t think a cover should replace a good backpack where you can transport all the material you may need on certain occasions, I do think that it is complementary to it.

A case allows you to pack light, encouraging you to take your camera with you, encouraging you to practice, taking away the excuses for laziness, while allowing you to protect your gear from surprises like rain or sand. or classics like stripes.

In addition, it does not require a high outlay, so for my part, it is a safe recommendation ;).
