You don’t have to be a parent to be sensitive to a child’s needs. Let’s say that it is a natural instinct that survives in the depths of ourselves and that leads us to want to protect and care for minors, as those especially defenseless beings that they are. Logically, when we are parents, that sensitivity to childhood increases. But in any case, if something is true, it is that we are all a little children because we have been and we still keep part of it inside us. However, there are societies and people who do not respect the rights of children. We want to explain when is United Nations Children’s Day 2022 and why is it celebrated this event that should not even exist. But today more than ever it still makes perfect sense.
When is United Nations Children’s Day in 2022
The Children’s Day is commemorated every November 20, as a date established by the United Nations. However, it is not uncommon to find other dates depending on the country. For example, Spain has April 15 as Children’s Day, taking for it the date on which the Universal Children’s Principles were drawn up and collected in a Universal Declaration. Other countries also take this date for its commemoration, such as: Bolivia, Turkey, Mexico and Belgium.
Even within Spain, places like Madridcelebrate the Children’s Day on the second Sunday of May. In any case, the important thing is not so much the date as the concept of what is celebrated and the awareness that you want to work on in relation to the situation of children in the world and their role in society. Well, we must do everything possible to ensure that their basic needs are respected.
Why is Children’s Day celebrated?
Children who go hungry because they do not have food to cover their nutritional needs, which leads to problems with nutrition, health, development and performance. Children who have to work instead of going to school, doing jobs that are hard for their young age and their fragile body in formation. Or worse yet, children who are exploited, subjected to inhumane work, with abuse and even sexual exploitation, used as merchandise.
There are countries where minors are treated like this, as mere objects of exchange to be used at the whim of powerful adults. And without taking into account that, in any place, when some type of crisis occurs, children are always the most disadvantaged. We must not forget that little ones need stability for their appropriate psychological and emotional development and that, in the face of a catastrophe or crisis, this stability falters, with the risk it has for them. In the long run, we will not only have children with problems, but also adults with problems because they have not had the minimum to develop healthily.
The children’s day goal it is precisely that we realize this and that we all contribute our grain of sand to help ensure that no child suffers marginalization, poverty and underdevelopment in any of its forms.
