Definition of
Delicatessen
The French term rotisserie came to our language delicatessen. It is a concept that is used in several countries of Latin America to name a type of business where ready-made meals are offered for sale.
Rotisseries usually specialize in roasted meats. It should be noted that the verb roast refers to roasting a food, and this is the reason why rotisseries are also known by the name of “rosticerías”.
In the delicatessen, in this way, you can buy roasted chickens, roast beef, sandwiches, fast food, pasta and desserts. The specialties for sale will depend on each store.
Here are some sentences in which the term is used: “Will you accompany me to the delicatessen to buy something for lunch?”, “I bought two chickens at the deli for dinner tonight”, “I’m going to have to cook: the delicatessen on the corner was closed”.
It is important to note that the delicatessens sell the dishes already cooked. That is to say: they do not offer ingredients to prepare meals, but they market the meals made. This allows that those who buy in a delicatessen do not have to cook at home.
Although the notion is quite broad and can refer to establishments with different characteristics, in general most delicatessen sells roasted chickens and fast foods. The largest include other more complex dishes and even desserts. It is also common for these stores to complement their proposal with drinks.
There are delicatessens that, in addition to selling food in the tradeoffer the Home delivery servicealso know as delivery (A term of English origin that can be used as a synonym for “cast” without the need to clarify its meaning). In these cases, the customer can call phone and request those dishes that you want to receive at home.
As well as other food stores, such as large pizza chains, some delicatessens have their own websitethrough which it is possible to know their products, consult their prices and hours, and place orders online, without the need to phone a particular location. This is very convenient today, since people spend more time browsing the Internet than consuming any of the alternative media.
In addition, it reduces the maintenance costs of a business, since it requires the work of less personnel in the customer service area. As if these were few advantages, the rotisseries that have web portals can receive as many simultaneous orders as necessary, since they do not have to personally attend to each client; the latter must be regulated, on the other hand, putting into operation a precise system calculation of delays.
He staff available for delivery is much smaller than the number of orders that can be simultaneously accepted through the Internet, so it is necessary to indicate how long it will take for the merchandise to arrive or temporarily disable the purchase process at times when there are too many orders pending to be prepared and dispatched.
The delicatessen can not only be found as an independent store, but it can also be part of a larger one, such as a supermarket. This is very common nowadays, and it offers customers the possibility of bringing ready-to-eat food at the end of the usual purchase, ideal for the most tired days.
In general, people appreciate homemade food more than purchased food, and this leads to certain prejudices against those who do not prepare their own dishes but go to the rotisserie regularly. In this way, depending on the person, this type of store can be considered a symbol of laziness, although it is a somewhat extreme generalization.
