The woman’s body it is the focus of many different perspectives: from advertising to the judgment that we ourselves have in front of the mirror.
Those looks are not always loving; Most of them constantly seek to compare us with beauty standards that have nothing to do with the real woman’s body.
That’s why he was born “Bodysuit Positive” (or positive bodies), a movement that seeks to make visible the reality of the woman’s body.
Bodysuit Positive was born in 2007 as a response to the “bodysuit shamming“, a trend that embarrasses women for their physique. It emerges at the time that the first magazine in the Spanish-speaking world of plus sizes is published.
Accepting our own body becomes very important because it changes the way we relate to ourselves and to others. Feeling comfortable with how one is (internally and externally) projects outwards; and it frees us, in the sense of getting rid of ideals that have nothing to do with reality.
Women (and men too) are imperfect by definition. We have scars, blemishes, freckles, acne, stretch marks, cellulitis, flaccidity, etc, etc. That is the reality indeed.
The movement supports the idea of multiple beauties. Each particularity makes us unique, it is not necessary to want to look like anyone else. What we have to do, on the contrary, is to accept ourselves as we are. That’s what should be normal, don’t you think?
