The back is a central part of our body: it supports us, allows us to move and keeps us grounded. It is made up of 33 vertebrae, supported by a system of muscles and ligaments, which offer flexibility and stability. In their center, the vertebrae also have a special hole where the spinal cord runs; the one through which the brain sends signals to the legs, arms and other areas of the body.
It is very common that tensions, stress and overexertion make different places on the back usually hurt. In addition, as emotions are connected to physical pain, these are often linked to loads, pressures, support problems or instability.
As each person is different and unique, no back is the same as another. But there are certain common characteristics that, although it had not occurred to you to think about it, may be saying much more about you than you think. Find out here what they are.
dimpled back
Both men and women can have the so-called “Dimples of Venus or Apollo”, two small depressions on both sides of the spine, at the height of the sciatic.
Although on a physical level, it is believed to be a purely genetic issue, people who have them are usually characterized by being active, liking sports or outdoor activities and spreading joy to those around them. But they can also be extremely sensitive and difficult to please.
Back curved forward
There are many people who, despite not having spinal problems, walk with their shoulders slumped and their backs curved forward. In general, these are very distressed people, who find it difficult to see the positive side of the situations they have to go through. They tend to feel that everything is too heavy for them to carry; and they may tend to become self-absorbed and stick to their profession or career as a way of protecting themselves. They also stand out for being unconditional people with whom it is always possible to count.
Back curved backwards
Those who have the curve that the spine has at the waist stands out from their body contour, tend to be people who seek to stand out and attract the attention of those around them. They seem to take the world in front of them, and to be very self-centered people, but their posture reveals, deep down, a great personal insecurity.
Back with adiposity
For many women and men, the back is a part of their body that they do not feel comfortable showing in public because it is very difficult for them to eliminate the adiposity that surrounds their contour and folds their skin. In general, these people tend to be shy, and have a great emptiness inside them that needs to be worked on. But, also, they are characterized by being the most sincere and affectionate that exist.
embossed column
There are some people for whom the spine becomes visible and forms a relief on their back. In general, they are characterized by being obsessive people who tend to seek perfection and take into account even the smallest detail. They may focus too carefully on work, physical activity, or any other activity. In addition, they are usually very transparent, and say what they think without fear of what they will say.
sunken column
Those who have a slight depression on their back that forms a line that runs the length of the spine are characterized by being people of great emotional depth. Sensitive, companions and affectionate, they have an immense capacity to feel love; although they can often go too far and forget that, before the others, they are the ones who should love each other with such tenderness.
Very broad or very small shoulders
Although the shoulders and back are modified by physical exercise, there are certain features of the body that we tend to beyond any activity we can do to make a change visible. In the case of people whose shoulders are wider than the rest of their back, they are usually characterized by being protective, safe and having a great capacity to support those who are having a bad time; but they must regulate it so that this role is not excessive and turns on themselves.
Those who have very small shoulders, the same width as the rest of the back, are usually characterized as dreamers and staunch seekers of utopias, although they can often seem a bit childish or immature when it comes to realizing specific projects.
