We are in winter (at least in the northern hemisphere) and what better than calling a challenge that represents this cold that we are going through, it seems that we are in the North Pole!
How does it work? (Reminder)
Every week I will propose a new challenge, it is a topic that you will have to capture in a photograph and upload it to the Facebook page of the blog, putting in the description the keyword that I will indicate for each topic. The themes will be varied, from portraits to Macro photography, through landscapes, black and white photography, or babies. The topics will be proposed on Saturdays, so that you have all the Weekend to work them. You will have one week to upload your photograph (one photo per participant), until Friday of the following week. On Friday or Saturday I will update the article with the photo that has captivated me the most and I will propose a new topic, and so on…
Weekly Challenge 92: Cold
These days we are experiencing the cold in our guts, at least in the northern hemisphere, as I told you at the beginning. But of course, it is normal, we are in winter! That is why this week I would like to encourage you to represent the cold in your images. It is not exactly a challenge about winter, but about cold, I insist on this because it is not necessary that you limit yourself to this season. There are many themes or elements that can be related to the cold and are present in other seasons, for example an ice cube, which is present in the summer. Or you can use cool colors, with whatever theme you fancy. The challenge is to transmit cold, it doesn’t matter if it is with a snowy landscape or with an object, because what I would like is to challenge you to learn to transmit sensations through the tools that you have in the photographic world. One of them is color. This does not mean that you limit yourself to shooting in color, you can also transmit the cold in black and white, but you already know that š
Remember that for your image to stand out in the challenges, it not only has to comply with the weekly theme, it has to be āroundā. In a photograph, composition, framing, creativity, light, the story you tell or the sensations you convey are important… I’m very heavy with these things, I know. But I also know that you follow this blog because you love photography and because you want to learn and grow with each photo and that is the reason for the challenges, to help you grow. And that should be your biggest motivation when you participate. That’s why you should put all your senses into orbit when taking your picture and put into practice what you’re learning here (or there š ). This time I’m sure you’re going to make me freeze when I see your photo, what are you waiting for to find your camera?!
As usual, to participate in this week’s challenge upload your photo to the Facebook wall from the Photographer’s Blog: In the description of the photo please mention the keyword “Cold Challenge” followed by a title of your choice.
Alternative Means to Participate
For those who do not be from Facebook I have enabled new social networks to participate.
- Flickr: accessing the Group Mural of the Photographer’s Blog and uploading the photo directly. Give your photo a caption and be sure to mention “Cold Challenge” in the same.
- Twitter: uploading the photo directly to Twitter with the hashtag #ColdChallengeBdF
Happy photography.

This week I have vocalized an āoooohhhh!ā when seeing the “Icy Calima” by Alberto Suarez Dosantos. It seemed to me a landscape as spectacular as it was icy, which is what it was about. But what I liked most about this aspect is that, despite photographing the obvious, such as ice or snow, he has done so contrasting with warm colors, but in an imbalance that obviously unbalances the balance towards cold and has done using the rule of the horizon and leaving two thirds to the ice to convey more sensation of cold than heat. A complete success. He has also achieved a sensation of enormous depth, with the vegetation in the foreground and the distant mountains, a good resource to make the image more attractive and guide the gaze. She’s also used a really interesting perspective, because depending on how you look at it, it looks like it’s at eye level or done from a higher level. Or at least it’s the feeling it gives me and I like that, because it’s different and because it makes you stay for a while looking at the picture and thinking, “how cool it would be to be right there, feeling the cold in your feet and with a frozen nose, but with an enormous feeling of freedom, of peace, breathing the pure air (although cold š ) of nature and contemplating the wonders that our mother Earth gives us. By the way, I’ll take advantage: let’s take care of her, please, she gives us everything and how little we appreciate it! Congratulations Albert! A “warm” greeting (to counteract the cold you are making us go through) for you and other participants.
