Weekly Challenge 34: Lightpainting

Dedicating this week’s challenge to a topic other than Lightpainting would have been a total sin 😉 Welcome to the 34th edition of the Weekly Challenge. Prepare a flashlight…

How does it work? (Reminder)

Every week I will propose a new challenge, it is a topic that you will have to capture in a photograph and upload it to the Facebook page of the blog putting in the description the keyword that I will indicate for each topic.
The themes will be varied, from portraits to Macro photography, through landscapes, black and white photography, or babies.
The topics will be proposed on Saturdays, so that you have the whole weekend to work on them. You will have one week to upload your photograph (one photo per participant), until Friday of the following week. On Friday or Saturday I will update the article with the photo that has captivated me the most and I will propose a new topic, and so on…

Weekly Challenge 34: Lightpainting

Lightpainting photography is a rewarding challenge: it helps you hone your photographic technique and your use of manual mode, and if you do it right, it rewards you with real gems in the form of impressive photos that will provoke the “Ohhh!”the “How did you do it?” and the “Are you sure you haven’t used Photoshop?” of everyone who sees the photo.

In this week’s challenge I want you to turn off the light, get a flashlight, a lighter or any mobile light source, and dedicate yourself to painting in the air. Remember to take a look at the article on Lightpainting Photography that we published recently, and check out the gallery of 11 impressive photos made with the lightpainting technique to feed your creativity a little.

As usual, to participate in this week’s challenge upload your photo to the Facebook wall of the Photographer’s Blog: In the description of the photo please mention the keyword “Light painting challenge” (be careful with the spelling) followed by a title of your choice.

Alternative Means to Participate

For those of you who are not from Facebook I have enabled new social networks to participate.

  • Flickr: accessing the Group Mural of the Photographer’s Blog and uploading the photo directly. Give your photo a caption and be sure to mention “Light painting challenge” in the same.
  • Twitter: uploading the photo directly to Twitter with the hashtag #ChallengeLightpaintingBDF

Thanks for participating.

Update

Thanks to all of you who have participated in this week’s challenge on lightpainting photography, as usual, here is my small selection for this week, with some of the works with which you have participated.

You already know that it is difficult to choose a better or worse photograph, all the ones you have taken are good, but this week David’s «Rock People» photograph has pleasantly caught my attention. I love the staging of it, the composition, a mix of various subjects and a background of wall debris and a starry sky. The photo ends up directing your gaze to the left side of the frame, thanks to the left subject’s finger pointing that way.

I notice that the subjects were not fixed all the time. They posed for a moment but then they must have moved away from the frame, while the photo continued to be recorded, which has caused a kind of “ghost” effect that gives the photo even more mystery and interest.

Congratulations David for the great photo you have achieved.
