We are going to practice night photography in an environment that you know very well, do you sign up for the challenge?
How does it work? (Reminder)
Every week I will propose a new challenge, it is a topic that you will have to capture in a photograph and upload it to the Facebook page of the blog, putting in the description the keyword that I will indicate for each topic. The themes will be varied, from portraits to Macro photography, through landscapes, black and white photography, or babies. The topics will be proposed on Saturdays, so that you have all the Weekend to work them. You will have one week to upload your photograph (one photo per participant), until Friday of the following week. On Friday or Saturday I will update the article with the photo that has captivated me the most and I will propose a new topic, and so on…
Weekly Challenge 118: Your city at night
I put my hand in the fire because you have a photograph of your city, now… do you have any of your city at night? Have you practiced night photography through the streets of your neighborhood, photographed the blue hour or that beautiful building (which boasts the city in which you live) illuminated? I’m not so sure about this anymore. Night photography has some small complications that can be solved very easily with a little practice and some tips.
I encourage you to read the article published a few days ago on the blog 15 Easy Tips To Photograph Impressive Cities At Night. With this challenge I make sure that this article is not forgotten because if you read it at the time and did not carry it out, it is useless. Come on! Let’s practice and send your best photo to see it featured!
As usual, to participate in this week’s challenge upload your photo to the Facebook wall from the Photographer’s Blog: In the description of the photo please mention the keyword “Your City at Night Challenge” followed by a title of your choice.
Alternative Means to Participate
For those who do not be from Facebook I have enabled new social networks to participate.
- Flickr: accessing the Group Mural of the Photographer’s Blog and uploading the photo directly. Give your photo a caption and be sure to mention “Your city at night challenge” in the same.
- Twitter: uploading the photo directly to Twitter with the hashtag #ChallengeYourNightCityBdF
Happy photography.
Update
The cities, when night falls, seem different. Here’s a sample, thanks to those who make it possible every week!
I have viewed the featured photos several times to choose one. I like something about each one of them (they are there for a reason, of course), but there is one that has made me stop, rest, browse at every turn. When an image manages to keep you looking for a while, that your gaze rests for more than an instant, it is because it has a soul. A photograph with soul moves, transmits, catches you, it is something that goes beyond technical details, beyond form. “Night Traffic” by Cristina Bataller Montón catches the eye for several reasons. It is a spontaneous image, there are no tripods here, there is no planning, there is an instant, a story and a shot. A line of yellow lights leads the gaze towards a horizon through which the sun appears, waking up the city, with the traffic of the early risers as the first sign. I like it for that different point it has, a different perspective but at the same time so familiar… the colors, the blur, the low contrast are associated to highlight this image and manage to convey many sensations. Seeing this photo I really feel as if I were inside that car, I even hear the song that plays on the radio, a soft melody with a certain air of nostalgia that muffles the traffic noise, that protects me from the chaos of the city but that lets me enjoy its lights and the life that is in it. Congratulations, Christina!
