UN report warns of soil degradation

What would happen if the world’s largest companies led the fight against climate change? Undoubtedly, this would encourage governments to join global efforts to reduce emissions. There is no time to lose!

In line with what has been said, a new document carried out by scientists from the UN He warned that the exploitation of natural resources is destroying biodiversity, threatening human health and harming the economy of companies and industries.

“Redirecting the $700 billion given in annual subsidies to agriculture and fossil fuels around the world to restore the land could help”specified the document.

According to Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of the UNCCD: “The private sector, responsible for most of the food production, should reduce the use of agrochemicals and invest more in boosting nature. Such projects could include restoring soil health, protecting wildlife, and improving water availability through rainwater storage or the use of drip irrigation.”

Now then… it is necessary to stop at this point and analyze the role of corporations in current problems. While multinationals are responsible for a fifth of carbon emissions, scientists continue to point out the great threat that climate change poses to human life and species.
