In our life, what place does nature have? Possibly few times we remember that we live in a world in which men are only a small part. But there are some events that take us off center stage. Surely you are thinking of phenomena such as tornadoes, tsunamis and other catastrophes. But there are more everyday things, like the rain, that also remind us that not everything is under our control.
Although today many people find rain annoying, since ancient times, it was considered a blessing, since its vitality was understood for the fields and with them, that of food.
Just as there are beliefs that hold that 3 days of wind in a row, the white halo of the moon, the appearance of a black raven, the trace of a viper on the ground, or the presence of bailiffs flying are omens of rain; there are also others that point out some rituals to prevent it from raining on a finished day.
According to tradition, these are some of the “rituals” that even today some people believe can carry away the rain clouds:
- Placing raw eggs in the corners of the patio or the largest room in the house.
- “Blow the clouds.” Blow towards the sky, as long as you are not Pisces, Cancer or Scorpio (water signs).
- Put two onion heads in the highest window of the house.
- Put the shoes with the sole facing up at the front door of the house.
- Make a salt cross on the right side of the door, in case it rains a lot.
- Stick a knife in the center of the patio, if you have one (try not to do this if you have pets or small children).
- Open all umbrellas and place them handle up close to windows or doors.
- Those who are religious pray to San Isidro Labrador to remove the water and bring the sun.
Do you think any of them work? Do you know others?
