The Kings Day It is a tradition of Christian origin that recounts the journey of the three wise men who came from the East, guided by the Belen star, to celebrate the birth of the baby Jesus. In this note you will discover its magical coincidence with the astrologer’s day.
This day is especially commemorated in Argentina, Uruguay, Spain and some Latin American countries. It is customary that every night of January 5, boys and girls place their shoes near a window or balcony and on the morning of January 6, they receive the gifts that the magicians bring them.
Who were the wise men
Although their origin is not known for sure, it is believed that they were magicians who came from the East, although it is not very clear if they were from Babylon, Persia or India. The word “Wizard”, comes from Persian “ma-gu-u-sha”which means priest and was associated with those who studied the stars.
What we do know is that they are linked to the religion of Zoroaster (Zarathustra), characterized by the study and interpretation of the movements of the stars. For this reason, they are considered ancient astronomers who knew very well the messages of the cosmos.
Celebration full of symbolism
The representation that is made of the Magi is very interesting: Melchor is represented with European features, Gaspar as an Asian man and Baltazar with African features: the three predominant races of the Middle Ages.
As for the gifts given to the child Jesus, each one had a special meaning: Melchor gave him gold on behalf of the prosperityGaspar gave him incense that symbolizes the divinityand Baltazar brought him myrrh associated with humanity. All these gifts related to human and divine nature.
The link of the Magi with Astrology
is the Belen star the one that links magicians with Astrology. According to ancient sources, the Magi knew the messages of the stars and understood cosmic events.
This is precisely Astrology: a body of knowledge that studies and interprets planetary and astral movements. He was the astrologer of Bulgarian-Uruguayan origin Boris Christoffwho suggested that January 6 also celebrate the astrologer’s day in honor of the three wise men.
From a more current astronomical perspective, it is believed that the famous Star of Bethlehem may have been the conjunction between the planets Jupiter and Saturn of that time or even the pisces constellation.
In short, the link between both festivities is a symbol of the deep relationship between Astrology and the spiritual celebration of the Three Kings guided by the divine Star.
