There is constant talk about new movies or series that are coming to streaming platforms such as The InnocentStar Wars The Bad Batch or Jupiter’s Legacyto give some examples, but logically there are many proposals that arrive silently and do not receive any attention.
This time, I’m here to recommend a movie that’s been around for a few years and landed on Netflix very recently, but if you’re passionate about the horror genre and are looking for a disturbing experience, you can’t miss it: The invitation.
This is a thriller that will make your hair stand on end thanks to a very well-measured mix of suspense and terror that will make you feel really uncomfortable throughout the entire film.
The first thing you should know is that The Invitation is directed by Karyn Kusama, director of the underrated Jennifer’s Body, and this film is a bit the same, as it has an average score of 6.6 on IMDb, although it is true that specialized critics praised it through the roof: it has an average of 89% on Rotten Tomatoes.

Now, what are you going to find? A man accepts an invitation to a dinner party organized by his ex-wife and where at first everything seems normal, little by little everything becomes more complicated and a frankly disturbing atmosphere is generated that will open old wounds and create new tensions that will make you feel very uncomfortable.
The film makes it clear at the beginning that the problem of the divorce between both characters is due to the absence of their son, but the painful details that lead to the separation are revealed much later and you will not see it coming.
The best thing about the film is that it makes you feel constant tension, a fear that is difficult to define, since you are never sure if the group of friends is in danger or if it is simply the result of paranoia.
I’m sure that when the pandemic is over and you can leave the house to meet up with friends for one of those endless dinners that last until the early hours of the morning, you might think twice about whether it’s the best plan after watching this movie.
