This is what China Suárez said about abortion

The legalization of abortion is a highly discussed topic today in Argentina. Although it has been part of the agenda of feminist groups for years, today it resonates more strongly than ever in the streets of the country, and no one stops expressing themselves about it.

Sectors for and against the legalization of abortion have given their point of view, and the issue that generates much debate. In this context, the actress China Suárez, in her first interview after being a mother for the second time, also expressed her opinion.

What did China Suárez say about abortion?

When asked about the legalization of abortion, China was very clear: it is in favor of decriminalization.

“It is not that one is in favor of people having an abortion or that I carry the flag of abortion and against life, there are any number of girls who die, mostly from the middle and lower class, because the upper class Yes, they can go to a clinic and pay,” he said.

In this sense, the distinction he makes is worthwhile, and it represents the opinion of many people: he is in favor of decriminalization, not necessarily abortion itself. In the case of a practice that already exists, and whose clandestinity particularly harms lower-class women, decriminalization could be a tool for equity.

The important thing, for the actress, is comprehensive sexual education: “I am in favor of education, which is fundamental, girls have to know about contraceptive methods, they have to have tools, be able to go buy the morning-after pill. I don’t know why it’s so difficult, I think it’s missing, but of course I’m in favor of legalization. It is very important that a woman can decide on her body and that she has the tools and the possibility to do it”.

In favor of women who fight against injustices

China Suárez clarified that her position has nothing to do with any association with a feminist movement. But that she, although she never had contact with referents of the #NiUnaMenos movement, she always supports women who fight against injustices.

In addition to talking about abortion, she also gave her opinion on the issue of harassment that many actresses reported having suffered_”No, I never felt it, I’m honest. I started very young and I always had my parents very close and I think they helped. If anyone wanted to go overboard with me, I have told them to go to hell and I admit that I was lucky to have a shit character and that has also helped me when I was younger. I had no problem standing up to any guy who was out of place.

In this sense, he stressed that, in many cases, it has to do with an abuse of power that has to end.
