This is how I tell the world why being a grandmother changed my life

Being a grandmother is moving a little from the role of mother, to occupy a new place in the family. For the mothers of the new mother, perhaps the task is even more intense: naturally, the daughters turn to their own mothers to try to “learn” to take care of their children.

Thus, being a grandmother is actually being in a double role at the same time. She does not stop being a mother, but now there is another being that floods her grandmother’s heart with love.

a love that heals

Many grandmothers say that having their first grandchildren changed their lives, but not only on an emotional level.

It is that the arrival of a child to the family has a true healing power. How many mothers came back to their children, from whom they had distanced themselves, with the arrival of a child!

A grandson puts it all in perspective. That problem for which the family had distanced itself no longer seems so serious, because now there is something much more important: the love for the new creature.

On many occasions, this also makes the love between mothers and children grow. Even if there was no problem, now they have new topics to talk about, revitalized desire to “make a tribe” and be with the family.

Can a grandson also heal physically? Elena says that being a grandmother has revitalized her to the point of being a truly healing experience.

I felt like I was 20 years old again! She 9 years ago she was sick and almost paralyzed. Today, I walk, river, play hopscotch, and ride a bike with my granddaughter. On vacation, we even swim together and on Wednesdays, which are the days I wait for her for lunch, it is absolute happiness. I went back to childhood and I no longer think about my age or health problems.”

Going from motherhood to “grandfather”

Being a grandmother is very different from being a mother. Yes, many grandmothers fulfill a bit of the maternal role: caring, teaching, protecting.

But in addition, grandparenting is also putting yourself in a more receptive place than that of the parents. It is being there to listen, to understand, to advise.

When the parents have to become rigid, because it is their role to set limits, the grandmother can be the one who dialogues, the one who gives a word of encouragement, the one who explains from her place of having been there, why parents do what What do they do.

In addition, grandparenting is transmitting the past, the experience. The grandmother is the one who knows everything, the one who has lived it all, the one who always has the right word.

Being a grandmother is being, at the same time, a companion, a mentor, the best gaming buddy, a chef par excellence, and above all, the greatest source of love that a child (and an adult!) can have.

Long live being a grandmother!
