They rescue a bear that had been locked up for decades and take it to a sanctuary

After long months and repeated requests for release, the Asian bear named Dillan has been rescued and is in a recovery period. He spent decades locked in a small cement cage at the sports club Union County Sportsmen’s Club from Pennsylvania, United States, and was subjected to constant abuse such as a poor diet, being deprived of veterinary care and exposed to the noise of gunshots, due to the fact that his cage was located a few meters from a shooting range.

The bear, of a black Asian species, spent its days inside the cell with insufficient water and under the ridicule of the club’s visitors. Being deprived of his natural habitat led him to develop different conditions: He is several kilograms overweight, suffers from arthritis and skin irritation, and lost his claws at some point during his captivity. In addition, she has an infection that has eaten away at her teeth, gums, and jaw bone, which shows a dental disease that progressed by not receiving veterinary care for years.

The owners of the sports club refused for years to release it and deliver it to a foundation that would take care of it, because for them the bear was part of the identity of their club. That is why Dillan, in addition to confinement, suffered thousands of ridicule and humiliation by visitors.

Thanks to the claims and pressure of various animal organizations across the country, Dillan Bear was released and transferred to The Wild Animal Sanctuarya refuge in Colorado, United States, where he can finally live like a bear, in freedom.

To achieve this, the PETA organization, which is dedicated to fighting for animal rights, managed to gather more than 56 thousand signatures requesting his rescuein addition to the broadcast of advertisements on television and radio and the installation of a sign urging drivers not to stop at the club where Dillan was being held prisoner.

The ransom demand became massive when, along with other celebrities, the renowned actor Alac Baldwin sent a letter to Tom Wolf, Governor of Pennsylvania, which was published in the magazine People. Baldwin called for the governor’s intervention in Dillan’s case.

The bear is now in the sanctuary, receiving the corresponding veterinary assistance and with a long road of recovery ahead. Once his health improves, Dillan will be able to return to living in her natural habitat.

Dillan’s rescue is a cause for celebration and a clear example of the animal abuse and exploitation that happens around the world. It is still necessary to educate and raise awareness about anti-speciesism, care and respect for the life of all animals.
