Sattva means “impulse of evolution” and is, according to Ayurvedic medicine, the name of the kind and balancing energy. For this reason, Germán and Lorena chose this name for their music and life project. But his story began long before this project was under way and had a name.
Germán was experimenting with sound circles and therapies that use music as a means of healing. This is how he began to feel attracted and inspired by musical instruments used for meditation or alternative therapies, and he wanted to have one for himself. However, he discovered that these instruments were not made in Latin America. That did not stop his curiosity and desire to have one of his own: he set out to learn how to build them.
With a welding machine that his father did not use, a lot of research and intuition, he learned to make them.
Meanwhile, Lorena was traveling through reiki, a path of personal discovery. In a moment of crisis, the possibility of buying a drum appeared for her. But she also had the opportunity to meet Germán, who would later be her partner to embark on this path of music and healing together.
Germán had already started with the project of making different sacred instruments: the Sattva Drum, the Sattva Pan, Tibetan Bowls and Gongs. But at that moment they decided to start doing it together.
They looked for ways to adapt the manufacturing processes to the materials available in this country, and began to expand the project and manufacture new instruments. This is how the Sattva Sacred Instruments project was born, to bring healing music to all those who want to benefit from it.
The instruments
The instruments they manufacture, for now, are four, and each one has its special characteristics. Tibetan bowls are a powerful tool for vibrational therapies, a huge source of sounds and harmonics. When struck or rubbed, they produce a fundamental sound from which other higher-pitched sounds are released, which have a harmonic relationship with each other. This vibration aligns the energy of the wearer and the recipient of its vibration, as it can travel through the tissues of your body. They are made by hand, with great dedication and care, to achieve a beautiful sound. But above all, with a special ingredient: passion.
The Gong, meanwhile, is native to Southeast Asia and has been used over the centuries by various civilizations for ceremonial, therapeutic and musical purposes. It produces a fundamental sound from which a universe of harmonics and overtones emerges, capable of infinitely expanding the senses and the mind of those who listen to it. Its deep and long vibrations penetrate the body and harmonize its delicate frequencies with the biological rhythm of the universe.
It is said that there is no mind that can resist the power of the sound of a Gong, and that is why it is a powerful tool for the expansion of consciousness. They are entirely handmade and hammer blow with the interaction of fire. They are frequently used in meditations, sound baths and Yoga.
The Sattva Pan is the first handpan made in Argentina. Designed to be played with the hands, lying on the lap, and interact with the spirit and emotions of those who perform it. It is a complex instrument and so is its elaboration. Each one takes weeks of full-time work, is made with a lot of patience and inner stillness. It is the only recipe to achieve its beautiful sounds, the product of years of study and research. In order to acquire one, you must go through a long waiting list, which can take several years. Which, in addition, is closed for the moment.
The Sattva Drum, finally, is a resonant steel instrument, it was created to allow free improvisation and meditative exploration of sounds. It is the ideal instrument for those who want to reawaken their “inner musician” and relate closely to music, without having any kind of theoretical knowledge. It proposes to approach music with the same naturalness with which we approached our mother tongue when we were children, and to make learning music just as easy. They are tuned in such a way that there are no notes that can sound wrong, it is very simple to play them and achieve a beautiful melody with ease. An instrument to let even small children touch, play and practice on a daily basis. Encourage them to play, rather than practice. And thus demonstrate that music comes from the musician, not from the instrument.
One of the most special parts of this story is the feedback received by those who took an instrument with them to their corner of the world: some sent them photographs of the instruments in the most wonderful landscapes. Others told them that their patients with different pathologies had improved, or that they themselves felt better and had recovered from some ailment. Many even told them that they had been encouraged to begin to venture into the profession of therapists, and dared to begin to heal.
These musical instruments completely changed the lives of Germán and Lorena, and they propose that, now, they change the lives of as many people as possible for the better.
