When Guillermo Traid and Carlos Ruggeri crossed paths in the classrooms of the Industrial Engineering course in Argentina, they knew that their work would extend beyond the classroom. So it was. Together they set up a small workshop in the house of the parents of one of them and began to work on trying to reduce the number of cables in conventional computers. From here, working with different materials led them to think of a more ecological way of making them; giving life to an ecological project capable of reducing the environmental impact of electronic waste.
As a result of this worldview that unites and integrates ecology and innovation, Arbore Ecocomputer was born, a company that redesigns computers with natural materials that can be recycled or reused.
This is how they created “Arbore AR-One”, an “All in one” style computer, which has the advantages of a desktop PC, occupying much less space by having the integrated monitor and reducing the amount of cables. But, best of all, and what gives the project its characteristic stamp, is that it has a recyclable cabinet made of MDF, an agglomerate made of biodegradable wood fibers, covered with a protective lacquer, which even integrates very well with the home decor.
Unlike other computers, the “Arbore AR-One” model, being built with environmentally friendly materials, helps reduce the environmental impact both in production and at the end of its life cycle. Since the wood cabinet is biodegradable, it will break down over time, unlike other materials such as ferrous metals or plastics that are present in standard cabinets. Furthermore, it can be easily recycled and has low toxicity.
Regarding its characteristics, this computer also has a built-in 19.5-inch screen, with an optimal resolution of 1600×900, 60 Hz and efficient energy consumption; connectivity possibilities (by wi-fi or physical interface) and external audio devices.
Regarding the hardware, the components are standard like those of any PC, therefore, unlike other computers with a similar design, it can be updated, maintained and repaired quickly and easily, which extends its life cycle. The user can choose the operating system, as well as the processor, RAM memory, hard drive and motherboard, according to their own needs.
The enthusiastic spirit of the youngsters continued to grow and they continued to refine their products until they also created “Ar-Box”, a small-sized mini CPU (18 x 20 x 6 cm) whose design allows it to be used vertically, horizontally or hidden behind it. monitor, using a specially designed adapter. It is available in three shades, is made with eco-friendly materials and has low electricity consumption.
The creative capacity of these young entrepreneurs does not stop, and they are going for more! Just as they made innovation an environmental project, they also knew how to see an edge of solidarity in their ideas. That is why they are in the development of the AR keyboard, a computer keyboard for people with motor difficulties, made with wooden templates instead of plastic, which allows the person to press a single key at a time.
In this way, although Arbore Ecocomputer products can be used like any computer, they are up to 30% cheaper than other computers with the same characteristics, and they have, above all, the difference of having made a more in-depth and responsible decision to make the world a better place for generations to come.
At the moment, Arbore Ecocomputer’s products are only available for Argentina, although the project will continue to expand in the coming years.
