They are burning their own muscle mass
It is noticeable that these animals look much thinner. Also, that its size is smaller. Newborns are unlikely to grow. It is a situation that triggers the alerts of conservationists of this species.
What’s going on? It is a metabolic phenomenon of mammals: when not getting carbohydrates, the body burns muscle mass for energy. The result is a weaker appearance and less body strength.
The Borneo area is an example of deforestation and mining that increased in tropical climates. Fruit trees are scarce. Also, they are felled before they reach the fruiting stage. There are no fruits for orangutans!
It happens that orangutans are animals that need carbohydrates. They move on trees, doing a lot of physical activity. By losing muscle mass, they lack the dynamism to move in their territories.
The reality of orangutans in the world
They are living beings that are part of the primate family. They extend through the area of Indonesia and Malaysia. Their diet is mainly fruits, which are the basis of their daily diet.
It must be said that they are large primates. Therefore, they require a lot of food. Its habits are totally arboreal. In addition, they are semi-social animals: they make groups, but they also move solitary.
It is considered an exotic animal, which is why it is often the victim of poachers. Moreover, they have few predators in the wild. They live so high in the trees that few animals manage to capture them.
They only experience dangers when they descend to land. At such times, tigers are their main enemies. However, this rarely happens. Orangutans tend to live almost all the time in trees.
The aforementioned implies a double warning signal: in Borneo the fruits and the trees disappear. This is how these primates are being cornered. They have no food and their natural habitat is scarce.

very thin and small orangutans
A rare specimen of albino orangutan was recently observed in Borneo. This demonstrates the biodiversity of the area. However, it is also observed that the other specimens look skinny and with little strength.
The lack of food can become the cause of their disappearance. Primates fail to survive or reproduce. Likewise, the pups do not increase in size and are left with a reduced size.
