Although we’ve gotten used to thinking of witches as Halloween cartoons, being a “witch” long ago wasn’t just an offense, it was life-threatening. Under that figure, many women were persecuted, tortured, and killed.
“To murder these women it was not necessary to present evidence, just making a verbal statement was enough and there was no defense option. María Mies describes these events as ‘the femicide institutionalized institution in history'”, explains Beatriz Mora.
A story (which is not the official one) then tells us that the “witches” were wise women, empoweredwho enjoyed their sexuality, met other women, and knew how to use plants as a medicinal tool to help their sisters.
For the religious establishment, those women were “immoral” or “heretics”, but being called a witch today should be a compliment to you.

You participate in women’s circles, perform womb healing, attend women’s meetings, or you are simply one of those who are always willing to put their home as a meeting point to talk about being a woman, our suffering, strengths and challenges. You know how to value the shared experience and you leave these meetings feeling accompanied and energized.
You are not afraid of the patriarchy
You know that there is a system that still limits and oppresses us as women, but that, like the witches of old, does not scare you. You don’t hide anymore, you don’t hide who you are or your feminine power. You are more and more sure that the way is empowerand that this is never a lonely task, because there are always other women on the march.
