These signs could tell you that you have anemia and maybe you didn’t know it

When the blood contains fewer red blood cells than what is considered normal, or when they do not contain enough hemoglobin (which is the protein that allows oxygen to be transported throughout the body), we are facing a case of anemia. This means that the blood does not receive enough oxygen, and that can generate different symptoms that you can know to detect it in time.

Some of the causes of anemia can be: blood loss (for example, due to heavy menstrual periods), lack of production of red blood cells
(due to issues such as poor diet, for example), hormonal problems, diets deficient in iron, folic acid and/or vitamin B12, intestinal diseases that hinder the absorption of nutrients, among others.

The most common symptom of anemia is tiredness. But there may also be other signs:

  • Dizziness or headaches.
  • Pallor.
  • Pale mucous membranes of the eyes (to check, look at the inner line above your lower lash line) .
  • Low body temperature.
  • Irregular heart rate.
  • Cold in the hands and feet.
  • Irritability.
  • Respiratory problems.
  • Abdominal pain and chest discomfort.
  • irregular menstruation

Remember that it is important that if you detect any of these signs you go to your trusted doctor and/or specialist so that they can do a blood test, recommend the most appropriate treatment for you and clear up any doubts.
