The Nazca lines are figures found in the Jumana pampas, in the Nazca desert, in the department of Ica (Peru).
They were traced by the Nazca culture and are composed of several hundred geometric figures that appear traced on the terrestrial surface. Since 1994, the UNESCO Committee has inscribed the lines as a World Heritage Site.
Unfortunately, in recent years they have suffered serious damage due to the construction of the Pan-American highway.

Last April, a team of Peruvian researchers discovered 25 new figures designed by the Paracas culture in the Palpa Valley area, about 50 kilometers from the famous Nasca geoglyphs.
According to the researchers, they are geoglyphs prior to those of the Nazca culture (1-650 AD), since they belong to the Paracas culture (800-200 BC) and Topará (200-1 BC).
Most of these geoglyphs are figurative and not geometric. In addition, unlike those of the Nasca culture, these are drawn on mountain slopes and not on flat surfaces, highlighted expert Johny Isla, archaeologist from the Peruvian Ministry of Culture and co-leader of the Paracas Project.
These figures were detected thanks to the use of drones that flew over the area taking detailed photographs, satellite images and 3D scans.
These are new and valuable records of the pictorial works of pre-Columbian cultures. Can we take better care of them this time?
