The unification of Upper and Lower Egypt –

In our previous article we have traveled far back in time to learn the beginnings of egyptian civilization. And today we will advance a little more, until we reach the eve of the greatest splendor of the Ancient Egyptin the crucial moments in which the unification of the country and the central government is strengthened. We will review the historical periods called Protodynastic Y Archaic and some of its most important features.

Protodynastic Period (c. 3200 – 3100 BC) is also considered the final stage of the period predynastic. Here arise the first cities like Nubet, Nekheb, Nekhen Y tiny. The two kingdoms continue lower egypt (delta) and the upper egypt (desert area), some of whose rulers we know through palermo stone. Some Egyptologists speak of this period as dynasty 0.

archaic period (c. 3100 – 2750 BC approx). At the beginning of this period a key milestone occurs: the unification of egypt when Menes -the king of upper egypt– conquer the lower egypt. It is considered that Menes is he King Narmerfirst pharaoh of which there is record, initiator of the dynasty 1.

Around the year 2850 a. C. begins the 2nd dynasty. There is not much data on the reason for this new dynasty, since there is no evidence of a clear break between one and the other. Some theories consider that its beginning is due to the definitive pacification achieved between the upper egypt and the lower egypt. In this stage there was a strengthening of the central state and the group of scribes, dedicated to the bureaucracy, grew in importance.
