It all started when a neighbor from the Vicente López neighborhood (Buenos Aires, Argentina) was walking with a neighborhood stray dog, which they all take care of and call Orejón.
It was a normal night, until the puppy began to bark sniffing a bag, in a very unusual way that caught the attention of the man who was with him. The dog was barking at a garbage bag.
The man walked over to the bag, picked it up, and felt how heavy it was. Frightened, he opened it very gently. He couldn’t believe what he saw inside: nothing less than a baby.
The little one is less than a month old and when he was found he was malnourished, with symptoms of hypothermia and anemia, and weighing less than two kilos.
It is not known how many hours he spent like this, naked in a bag, in the middle of winter. But luckily, he is already in a hospital, recovering.
He was so weak that he didn’t cry, he just made a sucking reflex.
Neighbors called the police, who arrived and christened the baby Mateo. They took him to the Santa Rosa Maternity, where he is already out of danger.
Neighbors are collecting clothes to help him, and police are scanning security cameras in the area to see if they can identify who left him there.
When Mateo grows up, maybe he can meet Orejón, and they will tell him that that hero little dog was the one who saved his life.
