Educating the new generations in values is a global task that adults from all over the world should carry out. Obviously, it is not like that, but Unicef is working to make it so. And precisely in Unicef is the origin School Day of Peace and Nonviolence 2022a celebration that takes place every January 30date on which the contemporary symbol of global peace died: Mahatma Gandhi.
Gandhi himself said that «for a violent person, everyone is your family«. Obviously, the goal of the School Day of Peace and Nonviolence 2022 is for students to feel that the whole world is their family, without the need for violence.

The pacifist died on January 30, 1948. In 2022 it will be 73 years since his death and his message is still valid and leading global initiatives. This gives a sample of the impact of his work in recent history and how his murder made him a legend. whose legacy has transcended time. Something similar to what happens with The origin of the Holy Innocents’ Daywhich is still in force despite having centuries of history.
In his honor, Unicef promotes this commemoration with a marked objective: establish a culture of non-violence and peace in each educational center that there is even in the last corner of the planet. This work obviously requires the help of relatives and the environment, but Unicef considers that the school, as an element outside the family environment, is the perfect place to promote it.

When showing this teaching, the methodology varies according to the age of the students. This is how Unicef has divided the activities of the School Day of Peace and Non-Violence in three stages that cover the entire period of compulsory education:
- Early Childhood Education (students from 3 to 6 years old) – In the first stage of this teaching, the objective is to show the relevance of living in a peaceful society so that coexistence is normal and civilized. During the first three school years, Unicef seeks to involve students in creating peaceful and healthy environments. They do it using emotions, which, at that age, is a language that they handle wonderfully. Of course, not only positive emotions (joy or love), but also negative ones (fear or suffering) so that they know how to discern.

- Primary education (students from 6 to 12 years old) – Understanding in Primary has taken a qualitative leap and this allows students to be reached from various points, including the most realistic: war. Thus, Primary students are told the reality of a war, its origin, how it develops and, above all, the consequences it leaves behind. From there, a war is compared with a closer and more recognizable environment, in order to identify victims or abuses. They are also given a positive and hopeful post-conflict reading: recovery, reconstruction and the alternative of doing things differently next time.

In addition, they already know how to distinguish without problems the victims, the aggressors, even those who play the victims. On the other hand, they are shown how important it is to have a peaceful democracy, while pointing out the ideologies that, at that moment, bet on violence to achieve their objectives.

Like the methodology of School Day of Peace and Non-Violence varies by age, so do problems that arise to show students their premises.
- Early Childhood Education (students from 3 to 6 years old) – The most complicated thing at these ages is teaching how to control frustration and not resort to violence to placate it. Neither physical nor verbal. Conflict resolution is not yet developed in such young students and that is precisely what needs to be taught.

- Primary education (students from 6 to 12 years old) – In Primary, the objective is for students to confront their conflicts and solve them correctly. The usual thing in Primary students is to flee, reject or hide from any confrontation, especially when it does not affect them directly. This teaching lasts six years and, on many occasions, they fall short.

- Secondary Education (students from 12 to 16 years old) – The training cycle of the School Day of Peace and Non-Violence It ends with the high school students, who are shown the range of grays between the extremes that they usually go to at that age. In this case, it is essential to remove prejudices and preconceived ideas that have already been formed along with the maturation process. The most complicated objective is that they learn to resolve conflicts, both individually and, above all, jointly.
