A few weeks ago, OPPO presented its new family, the Reno 8 serieswith 2 very interesting terminals on paper: The OPPO Reno 8 and its Pro version.
The second one has already been drafted by Business Insider Spainstanding out in performance and screen and now it’s time to talk about the second.
I’ve spent a few weeks with the OPPO Reno 8 and the truth is that it has won me over both for its design and for its battery and fast charging, although it has some points that need to be improved in future versions.
Its price? 549 euros. Is it worth it? Read on to find out. My opinion on the OPPO Reno 8.
Beautiful design of very good quality and that feels great in the hand.
This is what I liked most about the OPPO Reno 8: its fabulous design.
It is a very compact device that opts for rectangular shapes that fit perfectly in the hand. It has a fabulous grip, unusual construction lines and the only thing that can be criticized is that although the back is very nice, leaves quite a few traces.
And despite that small flaw, the back has an overwhelming personality that follows the usual OPPO line. That is, that camera module that seems completely integrated and although it shakes slightly when left on any surface, it gives it an unparalleled appeal.
Otherwise, A very light mobile phone weighing only 180 grams and 7.67 mm thick. and the classic layout that we see today: volume up and down on the left, lock button on the right —that green decoration is great— and the USB-C connection at the bottom.
A fluid and bright level display with very good performance
As always, specs first: 6.43-inch FHD+ AMOLED with 90Hz refresh rate and 800 nits peak brightness.
What are you going to achieve with this? Very fluid interface with very good animations, fantastic color level and contrast to fully enjoy your favorite content and zero problems in very sunny conditionssince it has a really bright panel.
To find a fault, I think that the panel could have been used better, especially at the bottom, since he has a somewhat pronounced chin.
What I did like is that it has the hole in the screen of the selfie in the left corner, a location that I personally prefer. I get the feeling that it takes up less screen real estate, in other words.
More than adequate performance with plenty of power for whatever you need with a layer of customization on Android 12 that suits it great, although loaded with ‘bloatware’.
Inside it houses a MediaTek Dimensity 1300, a mid-range processor that is not bad at all and although it will not give you the ability to perform highly demanding tasks, You will not have behavioral problems during the day to day And you’ll be able to play whatever you want. Not at full speed, but with ease.
The best thing, without a doubt, is that it is a fairly efficient processor in terms of battery saving and heat dissipationso point worth highlighting.
Added to this is the classic ColorOS in its version 12.1, based on Android 12, which I think no longer needs a letter of introduction.
Very competent operating system full of options, but only one drawback is: comes loaded with bloatware. That is, you will have to delete apps that you do not want to have on your phone.
Fingerprint sensor under the screen, 5G, NFC for mobile payments… it has everything you need.
As for connectivity, there is little to add or highlight.
Yes I like that integrate the fingerprint sensor under the screensomething that is not very common in the mid-range, since it is usually housed in the lock button.
It also has 5G, to provide maximum mobile coverage in areas without Wi-Fi, NFC so you can pay with your mobile phone, and a speaker system that’s not bad at all.
It comes with 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of expandable internal memory, being the only option available.
Enough battery to get to the end of the day without problems and with excellent fast charging.
This is, without a doubt, another of the most interesting points of the device.
Its 4,500 mAh battery, combined with the good performance of the processor and how well optimized it is with the operating system, achieves that the autonomy Get to the end of the day without any problems and you can extend it for several more hours.
The best thing? An 80W SUPERVOOC fast charge capable of charging more than half of the device in about 10 minutes and achieve 100% in less than 20 minutes.
Fantastic figures that have nothing to envy of more expensive and higher-end mobile phones. Yes, it is true that It lacks wireless or reverse chargingbut seeing the results it gets, I prefer to stay like this.
One main camera and one mode selfie Very interesting, with which you will be able to take really good photos, but which does not perform so well in the rest of the photographic section.
AND This is where cuts are noticeableespecially regarding the Pro version.
In terms of specifications, it does have some things that surpass competing products and others where it falls short, but the truth is that The camera seemed more than adequate to me.. This is what you will find:
- Main: 50 megapixels, IMX766, f/1.8
- Wide angle: 8 megapixels, f/2.2
- Macro: 2 megapixels, f/2.4
- Selfie: 32 megapixels, IMX709, f/2.4
Broadly speaking it is the same camera that the Pro has, but What is really noticeable is the absence of MariSilicon Xan AI developed by OPPO that autonomously improves various image parameters.
It’s a shame not to see her around here, but still, It will allow you to take very good snapshots with its main camera and with the mode selfiealthough not so much in the rest of the functions.
The main camera achieves more refined and correct colors, while the wide-angle camera fails a little in some nuances, although it is not bad at all.
You won’t use the 20x zoom on a daily basis, since the image becomes noisy, but it can be useful for magnifying distant objects.
Indoors, the selfie camera produces very good results, although with a somewhat dull tone that does not reflect reality correctly.
Outdoors, the behavior is much better and perfectly defines the character.
It also has a macro mode that produces more than decent results.
Here’s a little gallery to show you what the OPPO Reno 8 is capable of:
I fell in love with the OPPO Reno 8 for its design and fast charging, and although it has some aspects that could be improved, I think it will give a lot to talk about in the coming months.
The OPPO Reno 8 is a truly complete mobile phone that will win you over if what you are looking for is level design, battery and fast charging.
Yes it is true that has some things to improvesuch as a decent camera or a more powerful processor, but the truth is that, broadly speaking, it has a fantastic balance in all its parts.
When compared to the competition in terms of price range and specifications, the device wins the battle in some areas, such as its fabulous design; loses in others, such as the camera; and remains average in some areas, such as performance.
What I am very clear about is that if you want a mobile phone with a design with personality, featherweight, level construction and an outstanding fast charging systemhere you will find what you are looking for.
