Self-healing with EFT, an emotional release technique

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is the English name for an emotional release technique that has its origins in ancient Eastern medicine. The premise of this form of alternative healing is that the cause of all negative emotion is a disorder in the body’s energy system. So what you are looking for is restore the balance of energy flow through a method that you can practice on yourself.

The technique incorporates two concepts: the meridian system of traditional Chinese medicine, which is used in acupuncture and consists of stimulating the energy points of the body; and that of the connection between emotional health and physical health, which holds that diseases are the biological responses to a stressful situation.

Practicing this emotional release technique on yourself involves touch with your fingertips the acupuncture centers present on the hands, face and body, while temporarily focusing on a problem you want to solve. This allows you to release and transform emotions such as pain, guilt, fear or anger.

THE BASIC RECIPE TO PRACTICE EFT ON YOURSELF

1. Determine in which part of the body you feel the emotion that bothers you and rate its intensity from 0 to 10.

2. Touch the energy point of the outer edge of the hand that is located in the middle of the outer edge of your hand (either one), between the wrist and the base of the little finger. Repeat the following sentence three times: “Even though I have this (name the problem) I deeply and completely accept and love myself.”

3. Give 7 to 10 taps on each of the energy points shown in the illustration below, while repeating a short phrase that focuses on the problem.

4. Rate your level of annoyance again on a scale of 0 to 10. If it’s still high, repeat: “Even though I still have some of this (problem), I deeply and completely accept myself.”

5. Repeat from step 1 until your discomfort level is as close to 0.
