Revolutions of 1848, summary –

In our previous article we have reviewed the wars of the first part of the 19th century. existed in Europe a relatively close antecedent revolutionary: the burst in 1830 that started in France had spread to Italy, Germany, Belgium, Poland and the Austrian Empire, nourished fundamentally by nationalist and independence movements and carried out by groups belonging to the bourgeoisie. Many of them were quickly and violently suppressed.

Once again the revolutionary wave started on Paris, about whose events we have spoken in detail in our previous article on the Revolution of 1848 in France. This soon spread Europejust as it had happened in 1830. In the Austrian Empire -which dominated a large number of territories and nations- the insurrection in Vienna caused the abdication of the emperor Ferdinand I and the powerful resigns Chancellor Metternich. The rebellions reached many Central European cities.

The revolution also reaches the Germanic Confederation and to the main cities of the Italian peninsula. But in all these cases, the monarchical armies ended up repressing the revolutionary movements and governments where they had managed to establish themselves.

Although the monarchical tendencies managed to reestablish their power (whether through repression in the Austrian Empire or with him Second Empire in the French case) Revolutions of 1848 They made a strong impression. Universal suffrage achieved in Francenationalist claims were strengthened and the foundations of the absolute power of the Old Regime. Soon Europe would shake again with the struggle of Germany and of Italy in search of its unification.
