Who hasn’t bought a nice pair of shoes that seemed comfortable, and even tried them on, after wearing them for several hours, they started to feel tight?
Or you may have bought them without trying them on, that they were given as gifts, that they have shrunk over time, or that you want to extend the useful life of children’s footwear for a while longer.
In all these cases, and for shoes of any kind (from canvas sneakers to party shoes, boots, boots, moccasins and whatever you can think of), this easy trick can be useful. It can even be worn with sandals and other open shoes.
Learn how to do it!
Materials
- Thick and healthy plastic bags, if possible with hermetic closure
- a pitcher of water
- Freezer or freezer
Process
- Fill the plastic bags with water. You have to be able to handle them, so they shouldn’t be too full. Close them very well, with a knot or with its hermetic seal, and check that they do not have any breaks. If you want to enlarge toe caps or children’s shoes, use smaller bags.
- Place each bag inside one of the shoes, arranging them so that they fill the entire shoe. Make them reach well both toes and heels. If necessary, place two bags. Be very careful that they do not burst.
- Put the shoes in the freezer overnight, or for enough hours for the water to turn to ice.
- Take the shoes out of the freezer, wait for the ice to melt, and remove the bags.
- Clever! You can now try on the shoes to see if they are like new.
How does it work?
When water freezes from liquid to solid, it expands. In this way, by increasing its size, it stretches the shoe, as if you had placed it on the last, which is the method used by cobblers.
