Democratising design and making it accessible to everyone. With this ambitious mission, Canva was born 11 years ago, a platform that, more than a tool, has become over the years a bottomless pocket with almost infinite resources.
It is, at least, for those who really know all its true possibilities. The reason is that the company has always started from a point of view that is as easy to state as it is difficult to execute: If you can think it, you should be able to do it with Canva.
They are working on it. More than a decade after its birth, Canva continues to strive to add at least one more detail to its already extensive catalogue every day.
The latest has been the possibility of incorporating Flourish graphics, one of the most widely used tools in the world in the field of data visualization.
Before them came Kaleido, a visual AI tool; Smartmockups, a product mockup creator; SlidesCarnival, which offers templates for sending messages; Pexels, a provider of stock photography, vectors and illustrations; and Pixabay, one of the largest image banks in the world.
As he recently told Business Insider Spainall of which is part of an effort by the company to launch itself into the conquest of Europe, a continent that currently barely represents 16% of its 135 million monthly users.
Canva, a tool that has helped some people earn significant amounts of money, sees room for improvement in these numbers and is willing to see how far it can go.
To do this, it needs people to fill, among many other things, the vacancies that are still open in its new office in London, United Kingdom. These will be a key part of Canva’s European efforts.
Above hierarchies and skills, as he explained to Business Insider Spain Cameron Adams, co-founder of the company, all Canva employees have something that unites them: “One of the coolest things about Canva is that the people who work here are huge fans of the platform.. They do amazing things with it.”

Internal presentations, branding templates, and automatic brainstorming: this is how Canva is used inside Canva
“With a growing global team, creating effective, engaging and inspiring internal communication is extremely important. That’s why Canva presentations are a core element of our internal communications strategy,” explains Edwina Munns, Head of Internal Communications at Canva.
So much so that today, Munns explains, All parts of Canva’s internal communication scheme are based on presentations from the platform itself.
I’ve made €1.3 million in revenue selling templates on Canva: this is how I scaled my business in less than 3 years
This includes everything from biweekly team meetings to those held at the beginning of each quarter, as well as all meetings that serve to assess new products and future strategies.
“We have found that using visual communication through the creation of engaging presentations is highly effective in keeping our global team of over 3,700 engaged. canvanauts connected to our culture, engaged and prepared to drive goals. That’s what’s at stake when we talk about internal communication,” Munns says.

But Canva lives not only for internal uses within Canva. The platform is also often used to satisfy requests from all types of clients..
“Like all global brands, maintaining brand consistency is key to building trust and awareness across our global community of 135 million monthly users,” explains Michael Webster, Brand Creative Director at Canva.
For this reason, he says, the company frequently uses Brand Hub, a tool announced last March that provides users with all kinds of tools to create advertising campaigns and logos.
Doing so, Webster says, allows the team to create branded materials without relying on help from designers, which saves time and allows for better task sharing.
“My favorite feature of Brand Hub is the brand templates. My team and I have created a wide range of templates, from decision boards to planning whiteboards, product launch roadmaps, marketing campaign plans, meeting agendas, and new employee onboarding plans, that can all be customized with the click of a few buttons.”
That way, Webster says, specialist designers can focus on large-scale creative projects and campaigns.
Brand Hub, on the other hand, is not the only toolbox available to Canva employees, as Canva content specialist Debbi Shibuya knows all too well.
“As a content specialist, the storytellingwriting and editing are part of my job, which means I spend a lot of time using Canva Docs,” Shibuya tells Business Insider SpainIt is an online document generator that allows you to add videos, graphics, images, lists, illustrations and other Canva designs.
As a novelty, Canva Docs has recently incorporated artificial intelligencea feature that Shibuya finds especially useful.
“When I get stuck, I turn to Magic Write, Canva’s automatic text generator. All I have to do is tell Magic Write what’s on my mind and it will create a starting point in a matter of seconds. It’s a really useful tool for generating ideas and starting drafts.”
AI, Canva’s best kept secret
Canva
But above all these features, what is, in the eyes of Canva experts, the one tool that none of their users should miss?
“Our AI-powered tools are making it easier for everyone to turn their ideas into reality. We’re excited to bring magic to our product and put it into the hands of millions of users in a practical and relevant way,” Dani Wu, head of AI at the company, told Business Insider Spain.
“A great example is our ‘Translate’ featurewhich uses AI to translate text in designs into over 130 languages, all with just a few clicks. It’s perfect for sharing content with a global audience and is just another way AI can save time and remove friction in the design process,” explains the expert.
