Photographer Captures a Puma Walking on an Iceberg in Patagonia

Pumas are the largest cats that can be found in the southernmost countries of South America, and they can be found throughout the American continent. From the Yukon, in Canada, to the south of the Andes mountain range and Patagonia.

Feline that is the second largest in the continent, only behind the jaguar, and also the fourth largest in the world. This animal, also known as a mountain lion, has a great capacity for adaptation, and can be found in all types of forests, deserts, and glaciers.

Despite how impressive it was for the Argentine photographer, Luis Alejandro Acharez, to capture images of a specimen of this feline in Patagonia, in the Argentine Lake of the Upsala Glacier, this finding was quite understandable.

“On his journey and pushed by the encounter of new prey, or perhaps, by his innate curiosity. He decided to cross this part of the lake. He is a great swimmer, but he decided to make a brief stopover on this iceberg to regain strength and then continue to the opposite shore. Fortune and chance brought us together in this meeting and this is one of those moments in which we, the photographers, once again believe in destiny”. He wrote the photographer on his Instagram account.

Unfortunately, the population of these felines has been severely diminished by hunting and habitat destructionwhich would make it even more complex to find scenes as beautiful as the one with this cougar on the iceberg.
