Mosquito Trap | Bioguide

This is a simple and inexpensive way to build a mosquito trap by recycling bottles when mosquitoes become a real nuisance. In addition to being effective for domestic use, we can use this useful method in: schools, nurseries, hospitals, houses, ranches, farms, ranches, nurseries. etc.

Needed:

– 1 gram of baker’s yeast- 4 tablespoons of sugar- 200 ml of water- A 2 liter disposable plastic bottle- Cardboard or black paper- Adhesive tape (scotch)- A container suitable for heating

Step 1

The plastic bottle is cut half a centimeter before it begins to decrease in diameter (circumference) towards the neck of the bottle. It must be cut evenly and horizontally, as both parts of the bottle are necessary.

Step 2

In the container the water is heated, the sugar is poured and then the mixture is allowed to cool. It is preferable to let the water boil for about 10 minutes so that the chlorine in the drinking water is released. Subsequently, the sugar water is poured into the lower section of the bottle.

Step 3

When the water is cold, the yeast is added without mixing it so that the chemical reaction lasts longer. This will produce carbon dioxide (CO2) in small amounts, which is the main attraction for mosquitoes.

Step 4

The upper part of the bottle is put upside down, as if it were a funnel. The edges are then sealed with adhesive tape, so that the CO2 only comes out through the center of the container.

step 5

Finally, the entire container is covered around with black cardboard, in order to darken the interior. The top should not be covered.

The trap should be placed in a dark and preferably humid corner. Outdoors, it should be in a corner or hung from the ceiling, taking care NOT to drill the container to hang it, being in the shade and sheltered from the wind. After two weeks, the cardboard should be removed, the funnel disassembled, and the large number of mosquitoes that have been trapped inside washed. The procedure can then be repeated and the trap reassembled. If the trap does not attract the attention of your mosquitoes. You can also experiment with other types of bait. Check the comments of this post, there are several ideas also around. It is important to know the type of yeast, some even recommend using vinegar as well.
