Cardboard furniture is an economical and sustainable alternative that you can build by reusing boxes. This option can be used to quickly furnish an apartment, an office or the space you need, without spending more.

From very simple ideas like using moving boxes as temporary shelving, to complete office sets designed especially for this purpose, cardboard offers a wide range of possibilities.
Although many companies are dedicating themselves to selling this type of equipment, you can also make your own furniture using cardboard from boxes that you have in your home. With this template, you can make a modular shelf that you can adapt to the number of modules and the size you need.
This is a good idea, for example, if you have just moved; because maybe you still don’t have enough furniture but you have leftover boxes that you used in the move or in which the appliances came. Also, the only materials you need are cardboard and scissors.
The secret is to fit the pieces in such a way that they give the structure firmness, so that you can place books on the shelves, or support any object you need on them, without giving in to the weight.

How to make your own furniture with cardboard?
1. Make a template. The first thing you should do is copy a template like the one you can see in the image, or make a similar one. You will need, on the one hand, a square piece with a hole in the middle, and on the other, a filled rectangular side piece. In addition, you will need to make a thin rectangular mold for the bars that will hold the squares.
The size will be the one you choose, but it is recommended that the squares measure 45 centimeters on each side. In this case, the side pieces will be 45 centimeters high and 35 wide (this will be the depth of each compartment). The small rectangular pieces should be 14 inches long by about 2 inches wide.
2. Mark, on all the templates, 4 slots on each side, all at the same distance. That way you can fit the pieces together.
3. Use the molds to cut as many pieces of cardboard as you need. For each module you will need 4 squares, 2 sides and 4 rectangular pieces.
