Modernism: the fathers of architecture –

Ludwig Mies Van Der Rohe. He was born in Aachen (Germany) in 1886. He studied in Berlin, standing out as an architect and designer, thus achieving in 1930 the director of the legendary school of modern design: the bauhaus. Given the world situation, he moved to the United States shortly after, where he designed his most emblematic works: the Seagram Building, the Farnsworth House, and the Barcelona Pavilion. He died in Chicago in the year 1969.

Walter Groppius. He was born in Berlin in 1883 and stood out for being one of the promoters of architectural modernism. With him was born bauhaus in 1919, consecrating himself as one of the best teachers that this school had. He died the same year as his partner Mies in Boston.

Tadao Ando. He was born in Osaka (Japan) in 1941. Interestingly, this Japanese took several years to decide to study architecture. After several years of trying his luck in other fields, he decides to embark on a four-year trip around the world, in order to incorporate the teachings given abroad. This is how today he is one of the most respected oriental architects in the world, consecrating himself with his masterpiece: the Church of Light. antjeverena image

Richard Neutral. He was born in Vienna in 1892 and grew up under the influence of the two Viennese masters of the day: Otto Wagner and Adolf Loos. His curvilinear works became more famous in the United States, a country to which he moved in 1923. His most important work: the Kaufman House

Adolf Loos. He was born in Brno (Czech Republic) in 1870. His work was based on architecture and criticism, based on designs that went beyond the everyday, generating a true modern revolution in Vienna. He died in 1933 in a town near Vienna.

Alvar Aalto. He was born in Finland in 1898 and was one of the most recognized architects, not only within his area, but also in industrial design. His most recognized works are the Church of the Three Crosses and the Espoo Polytechnic School, with curves being his personal hallmark. He died in the capital of his native country, in 1976.

Otto Wagner. He was born in Vienna in 1941 and is one of the initiators of modern architecture, along with the masters of the school bauhaus. A faithful representative of the Viennese Secession, he carried out numerous projects for his hometown. Among his emblematic works are the Caja Postal de Ahorros and the Wagner Mansion. image roryrory
