Lamps with glass bottles

We return to the recycling of bottles. Glass as a material is quite light and not very heavy in the decoration of small spaces. In a few steps we can turn a simple bottle into a lamp without many requirements.

Necessary materials:
  • Drill
  • A drill (bit) for glass
  • Plasticine to make a hole in the bottle through which to pass the light bulb cable.
  • Rubber to cover the glass hole (so it doesn’t cut the cable)
  • Some material for the support of the bulb, for example with cork.
Step by Step for the base

Drilling materials. Bottle (in this case cava), plasticine and glass drill bit. With the plasticine we make a small crater to fill it with water. This is important in order to continuously cool the drill bit. Drill at very slow speed. It despairs a bit but you have to be patient. This is the drill. If you know a friendly glazier, it may be cheaper to make the holes. If not, you will have to buy it at a hardware store. Here we see the bottle drilled. The next step is to protect it from possible cuts or the cable being cut. You can sand the hole with water-based sandpaper but because of the discomfort it generates, another alternative is to solve it with a tap rubber. Then you have to stick it to the bottle and hold it with a clamp until the glue dries well. You can see it there. The rubber is black, although with the flash it seems clearer. You can also see the guide that it has on. The light bulb support and the shade can be fixed with a cork stopper drilled to introduce the thread of the light bulb socket. It is put under pressure and with glue. To finish, it only remains to put the cables and the screens that one chooses.

Terminations with other types of bottles

At Ecologismos we have found this type of table lamp, inserting a series of LED-type bulbs into the bottle. If what we want is a ceiling lamp, we must cut the bottom of the bottle. In Decomundo, they tell us how and we can compose lamps as beautiful as these. Here we see one with cut bottles, if you want to learn how to cut bottles, read this article. Another alternative is to paint and decorate them to further personalize your night lamp. Sources: http://bricolaje.facilisimo.com
