On April 15, the world received the news of the devastating fire that hit the world famous Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris.
Tourists, locals and onlookers around the world could not help but watch as the 850-year-old temple burned amid a series of renovations to its structure. “Like all our compatriots, I am sad tonight to see this part of us burn,” lamented President Emmanuel Macron.
However, April 15 seems to be an announced date for catastrophes. Below, we will introduce you to some of the tragedies that have occurred on this date throughout history, and some are as infamous or even more infamous than the unfortunate fire in Paris.

sinking of the titanic
On April 15, 1912, around 2 in the morning, the iconic Titanic and its sinking were forever marked in the imagination of the inhabitants of the world.
The giant ship of almost 270 m long, nine decks and weighing more than 1,000 tons began to sink after hitting an iceberg. The damage to the hull could not be controlled and by the early morning of April 15 the ship was already sinking to the bottom of the North Atlantic.
Out of a crew of 2,200 passengers, more than 1,500 died that day, making it one of the deadliest peacetime shipwrecks in history.

Boston Marathon Bombing
This marathon is one of the most famous and oldest in the world. On this date in 2013, the competition was going on as normal until two explosions were heard.
Two brothers detonated explosives in a pedestrian walkway near the finish line of the competition, where a large part of the spectators congregated, waiting for the athletes to cross the finish line.
These explosions caused the death of three people and 264 others were seriously injured. Among them, 17 lost a limb.
Tragedy at Hillsborough Stadium
In the year 1989, English football suffered a traumatic and violent blow. While the FA Cup semi-final was being played between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at the Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield, England. The venue was full.
A group of fans forced their way into the stadium, exceeding their capacities. This caused people near the security fences to be crushed in a scene recorded on television.
In total there were 96 victims: 89 men and 7 women. Of those who perished, 78 were between the ages of 10 and 29.

The President of the United States, Abraham Lincoln, was the victim of an attack perpetrated at the Ford Theater in Washington by John Wilkes Booth. Booth shot Lincoln in the head on the night of April 14, and the president died in the early hours of the next day.
The writer César Vallejo, one of the greatest representatives of Peruvian literature, also died that day, at the age of 46. “Black stone on a white stone”, one of his poems, is considered a premonition, as he describes his own death on a rainy day in Paris, which occurred “perhaps on a Thursday”. Vallejo died on a rainy Friday in Paris.
The French philosopher and writer Jean Paul Sartre, Nobel Prize for Literature in 1964, died on April 15, 1980 due to pulmonary edema.
The Mexican singer and actor Pedro Infante also died on April 15 in a plane crash that occurred in the streets of the Mexican city of Merida.
