March 8 is commemorated, like every year, since the UN in 1975 established this date as International Women’s Day. March 8 is not a celebration party but rather a date of reflection, of demand for gender equality and the rights that all women in the world have.

Like every year, it will be a day full of activities, where conferences, demonstrations and various events will make us rethink the situation of women in our country.

a country where women work for less pay that of men and our rights, many times, are nothing more than lines on a piece of paper. A country that is evolving in this sense but still with very short steps.

The next March 8, 2022City Councils, Autonomous Communities and the Central Government, will be able to do their bit to continue advancing in the same direction.

An advance towards gender equality in all senses and that the rights recognized in our laws and constitution are fully complied with.

Progress has been made, however the feeling of women and girls around the world is that it is slow. We cannot say in 2022 that there will be any country that has achieved gender equality throughout the world and this is bad news.

Legislative, cultural, and social problems are the main obstacles that prevent full equality. women are still undervaluedworking more and charging less and having fewer options across the board. The different forms of Violence both in the family and in public spacesIt doesn’t seem to matter enough.

The generation of equality it must start now, it is time for the men and women of the world, boys and girls, to have a voice for themselves.

The constant silences, the stigmas and the shame that women have been subjected to have lasted too long.

Inside of 8M programming workshops, colloquiums, talks and seminars will be prepared. Programming that will be shared all autonomous communitieswhere topics as important as:

It is about gathering a representation of the next generation of activists who will play a fundamental role in favor of women’s rights.

Future defenders of gender equality, together with the groups, still active, creators and creators of the different platforms for equality and rights.

Unite two generations to create a pioneering campaign in favor of women’s empowerment multigenerational, under the motto «In Spain we call it solitude».

Where issues such as labor compensation, equality in domestic work or unpaid care will be addressed.

Another vitally important issue is violence in all its expression, against women and girls. The need to equality in political life and decision-making. Representations from the world of politics in our country will participate in various talks-colloquia.

The main objective and to achieve is the involvement of the political sphere in ending inequality in our country with effective and efficient measures.

gender violence to which many women in our country are subjected can only be attacked from within the scope of the law. Harden sentences and protect women in all areas, not only in the family.

The Generation Equality campaign it demands equality in remuneration, equality when it comes to sharing domestic work and unpaid care. End sexual harassment and all forms of violence against women and girls. Facilitate health services that respond to their needs, without exclusion for reasons of gender, race or belief. Greater foot share equality in political life and decision-making in all spheres of life.

Origin and history of Women’s Day

As we have already seen, March 8 is a well-known day: the Women’s Day. Talking about a party, however, is improper: This day is in fact dedicated to the memory and reflection on the political, social and economic achievements of the female gender, so it is more correct to speak of International Women’s Day.

But, How did this day start and what does it represent? The history of Women’s Day dates back to the beginning of the 20th century. For many years the origin of March 8 goes back to a tragedy that occurred in 1908 , which supposedly had as protagonists the workers of the cotton textile industry in New Yorkwho died in a fire. The 1908 fire, however, was confused with another fire in the same city, which occurred in 1911 and where 146 victims were registered, including many women. The events that really led to the institution of Women’s Day are actually more related to the vindication of women’s rights, including the right to vote.

In reality, there are many events that, since the beginning of the 20th century, have led to the struggle for the vindication of women’s rights and the establishment of International Women’s Day. The first important event was VII Congress of the Second Socialist International held in Stuttgart from August 18 to 24, 1907 . During this congress the question of women and women’s votes were discussed.

The socialist parties promised to fight for the implementation of universal suffrage. A few days later, on August 26 and 27, 1907, the International Conference Of Socialist Women, during which the Socialist Women’s Information Office was established and Clara Zetkin was elected its secretary.

However, the socialists were against the alliance with the bourgeois feminists, but not all women had the same opinion. In February 1908the socialist Corinne Brown declared in The Socialist Woman magazine that Congress “had no right to dictate to socialist women how and with whom to work for their own liberation.” The May 3, 1908Brown presided over the Socialist Party conference in Chicago, which was renamed ” Women’s Day “ who spoke about the exploitation of employers against women workers, sexual discrimination and the right to vote.

At the end of 1908 the American Socialist Party decided to dedicate the last Sunday of February 1909 to the organization of a demonstration to vote for women. The first “Women’s Day” in the United States took place on February 23, 1909.

A couple of years later, during the second International Conference of Socialist Women that took place in Copenhagen on August 26 and 27, 1910it was decided to follow the American initiative by establishing a International Day dedicated to the vindication of women’s rights.

In the following yearsuntil the outbreak of the First World Warmany others were organized days dedicated to women’s rights . In St. Petersburg, on March 8, 1917, women demonstrated to demand an end to the war. Later, to commemorate this event, during the Second International Conference of Communist Women in Moscow in 1921, March 8 was established as International Workers’ Day.

In Spainthe first women’s day occurred in 1977. In the decades that followed, the women’s rights movement continued to grow around the world. In September 1944 the UDI, Union of Italian Women, was established in Rome, and it was decided to celebrate Women’s Day in the liberated areas of Italy on the following March 8.

1975 was defined by the UN as International Women’s Year, and on March 8 of that year, women’s movements around the world celebrated to remember the importance of equal rights between men and women.

In summary, we can say that the
