On August 9, 2021, the International Day of Indigenous Peoples is celebrated. A day that was proclaimed by the UN or General Assembly of the United Nations and in which the first meeting of a working group is held, back in 1982, on the many populations of peoples of the subcommission and prevention of discrimination against minorities .
On August 9, 2021, Monday, the International Day of Indigenous Peoples is commemorated. Indigenous peoples are more than 5,000 different groups that bring together 90 countries and are made up of more than 370 million people, which corresponds to 5% of the world population and are among the most disadvantaged on the planet, assuming 15 % of the poorest countries.
Culture and ways of life are important since they bring together social, political and cultural features that are very different from today’s globalized society and have been, for many years, the object of all kinds of harassment and their rights have always been violated.
Today, these peoples continue to be harmed and are therefore more vulnerable. For this reason, the international community is recognizing that special measures are needed to try to protect the rights of these peoples and their cultures as a way of life.
