If you consider yourself a good graphic designer with a current, contemporary, simplistic style, and above all you see yourself as a very versatile person when it comes to graphic work, you may be the next addition to the Photographer’s Blog team. Keep reading please.
Photographer’s Blog
BdF is a reference blog in the Spanish-speaking world in terms of photographic dissemination. We love photography, but we love sharing this passion with our readers and teaching them something new every day through our articles, newsletters, digital books and online courses.
For this 2018 that begins we have a lot of projects that we would like to start up, for many of these projects the figure of a creative graphic designer is essential.
I am looking for a graphic designer who is involved in all aspects of graphic design for Photographer’s Blog
For years I have managed the graphic design of BdF on my own. I’m not a professional graphic designer or anything like that, but I’ve been doing my little things over time, learning things out of necessity, and why not admit it, for pleasure too. I am passionate about graphic design. Only… I’m not a professional graphic designer. So, over time I have been feeling the need to pass the baton to a full-fledged graphic designer, a skilled, gifted, specialized, dedicated one, someone who does nothing else in life but graphic design and who does it WELL, someone who is up to date with the latest trends, someone to whom inspiration comes almost effortlessly.
For years I have been trying to hire someone for this task, but I have been experiencing small disappointments: some, very good, did not speak Spanish. They knew how to produce incredible designs, but they had to speak Spanish to be able to communicate quickly and easily with the entire BdF team, and in general this first group of designers, normally from Asian or Eastern European countries, did not speak a word of Spanish.
Others, who were perhaps Spanish or from Spanish-speaking countries, did not offer me the “creative” quality that I expected. Knowing how to handle Photoshop, Illustrator or any other graphic design suite does not automatically make you a graphic designer. Well, maybe yes, but I wasn’t looking for a simple “graphic designer”, but one that would impress me, that would leave me speechless.
During these years I have observed a very common trait among many graphic designers: many graphic design professionals get carried away by their personal creative impulse and propose designs that “they” like, when in reality a good graphic designer should spend a lot of time to try to understand what his client is looking for and propose a job in the creative direction that he has marked for him.
To give you an example, maybe I would ask the designer to design a Landing Page inspired by the colors and shapes of an Apple product page (famous for its soft colors, its soft whites and grays, its rounded corners, etc.), and the designer ended up presenting me with a page design with floral motifs, birds, very pretty, without a doubt, but radically opposed to what I was looking for.
For a while I entered a state of “resignation” and concluded that I would continue to make my designs on my own. But as we got closer to the end of 2017 and the beginning of 2018, I realized that I needed to resume this search.
On the other hand, I had always tried to avoid launching a selection process like this, due to the tediousness of this type of process. In theory, the more people who apply, the more chances I have of finding the ideal candidate, but at the same time, a high number of applications would mean a lot, a lot of filtering and selection work, something I hate, why fool ourselves?
For now I am happy to announce that you have just passed the preliminary phase of the process 😉 If you are thinking of applying for this process and have read this far, you are already one step closer. The fact that this collaboration offer begins with a long text is in itself a first filter. Those who weren’t willing to read this lengthy introduction might not be the ideal candidate I’m looking for 😉
Curious to know what the collaboration will consist of?
As a graphic designer you will be responsible for:
- Design all the Landing Pages of the blog and of the projects that we launch from the Photographer’s Blog. These are landing pages of digital books that we launch every so often, of online courses, etc. You have examples here, one for each of our digital books and online courses.
- Design and layout the pages of the digital books that we distribute in PDF format.
- Design and layout of the free content that we offer in PDF format to our VIP Readers.
- Design all graphics, illustrations, schematics, etc. that are required by the editorial team of BdF to include in the articles that we publish on the blog.
- Design graphics for our social networks.
- Ensure that all the designs undertaken maintain graphic cohesion and represent the BdF brand in a uniform and consistent way.
What is the profile I am looking for?
- Multi-faceted graphic designer, with first-rate design skills but also the ability to locate, use or customize external resources (eg templates).
- Extreme attention to detail. Not only the detail at the design and pixel level. Also the fine detail at the level of understanding the needs of BdF, the detail to understand the purpose for which we want a certain design, the detail to understand the dates on which the work must be delivered, and the detail in terms of communicating and give visibility on the progress of the activities.
- You can combine your collaboration in BdF with other work activities or personal projects of yours, however you must be able to respect the agreed times for BdF activities.
- You can, of course, work remotely, from home, at a time that suits you.
- I will value as an extra being familiar with WordPress tools, and with HTML5/CSS3/Javascript. Although it is not essential.
Do you want examples?
Enter the BdF book section and click on a book. Any of the Landing Pages that you see there have been designed by a server, as I say, by someone who does not reach the category of graphic designer. You have another example of LP made by me in the School of the Photographer.
The person I am looking for is someone who will be able to:
- Understand, based on these designs, the artistic and creative style I am looking for.
- Produce something markedly superior from a graphic and creative point of view.
Here are some examples of current designs that fascinate me. It’s not that I like them all as they are, but they do contain aesthetic elements that are interesting to me:
You dare?
If you see yourself as an ideal candidate for this position, I would love to meet you and see a sample of what you can offer us. To present yourself as a candidate, please write to me at mario at , put “Creative Candidate” in the subject line, attach your portfolio or links to your profiles where I can see some of your work in the email. If you don’t have your works exposed publicly, you can simply attach them to me by email in private. Keep in mind that I’m looking for someone with experience, so it’s important that I can check out some of your previous designs.
In this first phase I do not need more. I will make a first sieve and I will notify you, by email, to those who have presented yourself how things have gone. Please note that depending on the number of applications this may take longer than I would like. If you see that I do not respond quickly, please do not despair. I promise to respond to all applications with a final resolution.
If you dare, I’ll wait for your email: mario at

Postscript: This is a freelance job offer. The selected candidate will receive a fee for their collaboration in BdF. I will discuss the details of the fees with the candidate individually as these will largely depend on the person’s worth.
