Closets are dark, closed places, often made of wood. All these are conditions that make them conducive to the accumulation of humidity, which can even cause the proliferation of fungi.
The problem is that we store our clothes in them, so it is better to keep moisture away, because it can ruin it and cause bad odors.
Next you will learn some simple tricks and with materials that you have in your house to eliminate humidity from the cabinets and prevent it from returning.
1. Let it breathe
Small and poorly ventilated rooms are the ones that suffer the most from humidity in the closets that are in them, since the air that is already humid is concentrated inside the closets, which are full of fabrics and fabrics that absorb it with ease.
An extremely simple piece of advice is to leave the closet door open from time to time, so that the air can circulate. If there is an opportunity for fresh air and sunlight to enter the room at that time, all the better. Sometimes the way to keep the closet clean is not to keep it closed, as many tend to believe, but on the contrary, this can be counterproductive.
2. Dry the clothes well
Sometimes, it also happens that we think that the humidity comes from outside the closet, but we ourselves are putting it inside, by not drying the clothes, towels or sheets that we keep well.
Solving this is as simple as drying the clothes very well before putting them in the closet, avoiding them being crowded together, and, if possible, using wire shelves, which allow clothes to air, instead of compact shelves.
3. Place coffee bags
- Coffee absorbs moisture, and also perfumes. Hanging small bags of ground coffee in the closet is an excellent option for times when humidity is generating a bad smell. In addition, the best of all is that you can directly use the coffee that comes in bags similar to those of tea, and forget about the problem!
4. Use baking soda
Sodium bicarbonate really has many uses and properties. Absorbing moisture is one of them, and above all the ability to neutralize bad odors. You can place a pot with baking soda (ideally it has a lid, but perforated) on the floor of the closet, under the hangers with hanging clothes. After a while, you will find that the pot is full of liquid!
5. Rice bags
Finally, another simple idea is to use rice. Popularly, rice is used to absorb, for example, moisture from salt shakers, and it is even said that if a cell phone gets wet, you have to place it in a jar full of rice for 48 hours and it will work again.
Take advantage of these properties of rice to take care of your clothes by making dehumidifying bags.
Materials
– Cloth
– 40 grams of rice
– Headband
Making
1. Cut out a square of fabric approximately 10 x 10 centimeters.
2. Place 40 grams of rice in the center and close it with a ribbon, like a bag.
3. Finally, hang them from the hangers or place them between the clothes.
You can also place a bowl of rice on the floor of the cabinet. The bags or bowls should be replaced approximately every 15 days.
Note: do not place bags of rice between the clothes, as its absorption power is such that it will get very damp and wet the clothes.
