How to prepare ecological pesticides, fertilizers and herbicides

Taking care of your plants, flowers and crops and keeping them protected from unwanted pests and insects is a task that requires patience and dedication. Many products promise to be the quickest solution to take care of your plants, but they contain very strong synthetic chemicals that can damage your plants and affect their growth.

Furthermore, contrary to popular belief, organic products are usually as effective as industrial ones in repelling pests and protecting garden plants. The same happens with fertilizer: since ancient times organic waste has been used to feed the earth, but the urgency with which we get used to living has made us opt for products made from industrial processes with chemicals such as nitric acid, sulfuric acid and ammonia. This causes the land to not really be nurtured, but to become obsolete faster.

Therefore, it is better (and much cheaper) to make organic preparations with which you will be taking care of not only your garden, but the environment in general. With simple alternatives you will be avoiding water contamination, soil degradation and the death of useful microorganisms for plant nutrition. Here are some easy ideas that you can apply to keep your garden or orchard in all its splendor.

Use garlic as an insecticide

Garlic works as a natural insecticide, capable of repelling insects from your plants or garden. To prepare this repellent, crush a head of garlic along with some cloves and two glasses of water. Then let the preparation rest for a day and finally mix it with 3 liters of water to spray it directly on the leaves of the plants.

Garlic infusion can also be effective in fighting aphids.

Macerates tobacco to repel insects

You can also keep insects away from your plants by using the nicotine in tobacco leaves. To prepare this natural repellent, macerate the tobacco from 3 or 4 cigarettes in half a liter of water. Leave it for two days and then strain the liquid to apply it with a spray on your plants.

Fight fungus with milk

Milk, by containing certain amino acids, phosphates and potassium salts, works as a natural antibacterial and fungicide to combat fungi that can attack your plants. To use it, make an organic preparation by mixing 1 part of liquid skimmed milk with 9 parts of water. This will form an outer permeable protective layer on the plant that will prevent the spread of the fungus. Apply it for two consecutive days and then every 15 days as a preventive method.

Keep insects away with pepper

Pepper is a natural repellent that will keep your plants free of pests. To use it, cook ground black pepper in a liter of water. Then use the mixture at room temperature by applying it to your plants with a sprayer.

Use newspaper to combat weeds

You can eliminate weeds in your orchard or garden using old newspapers and without resorting to herbicides or toxic chemicals that can damage the soil.

Use tomato leaves as a natural insecticide

Tomato leaves contain alkaloids, a natural substance that works perfectly to repel aphids, worms, and caterpillars. To use it, chop tomato leaves (2 cups), add water and let the preparation rest overnight. Then, dilute the mixture again in two glasses of water and spray your plants with it.

Keep tomato moths away with ginger tea

To keep the caterpillar known as “the tomato moth” away, which usually attacks these fruits especially, use a natural preparation by boiling 1 and a half liters of water with some rosemary leaves and then mixing it with 50 grams of grated ginger. Let the covered mixture rest for 24 hours and apply it diluted in 4 parts of water.

Use eggshells as organic fertilizer

Eggshells have a double benefit, since they can be used as a natural fertilizer or as an insect repellent. If you grind them, you can apply the powder at the base of your plants or place the pieces arranged in a ring around it, which can also protect it from some snails or caterpillars.

Keep insects away with nettle tea

Nettle has a pungent flavor that repels insects. Therefore, you can use it very effectively by placing it in a container, covering it with water, and letting it sit for a week.
