Potted strawberries:

Strawberries can grow well in pots. For this, it is best to get a little overgrown seedlings from a nursery, and plant them making a hole of 20 centimeters in a pot filled with fertile soil.

It is ideal to plant several plants together. It is best to place three seedlings in a rectangular pot of half a meter, separated from each other by 10 centimeters apart, and 5 centimeters from the edges. A single plant can also be placed in the center of a circular pot. For no reason cut the roots of the plant, nor its leaves. When you finish planting them, press the soil around them well.

Strawberries on the ground:

If you have space in your garden, you can plant the strawberries directly on the ground. However, since they grow quickly but are quite fragile, it is good to protect them in some way so that they are not left out in the open.

In the photograph, the strawberries were planted in a special frame built for them. It is made up of a wooden container with divisions and a lid with a wire mesh that protects it from hail, wind and small animals.

You can easily make a similar structure yourself, using a fruit crate, metal mesh, and thumbtacks.

– Season: strawberries are planted in winter, because they bloom in spring and are harvested all summer.

– Climate: keep the strawberry seedlings at a temperature between 18 and 25ºC during the day and between 8 and 13ºC at night. They grow very well when they get direct sun during the day.

– Irrigation: it is important to use water that does not contain excessive minerals, so rainwater will be ideal.

– Type of soil: strawberries grow well in well-drained soil, so a sandy-textured substrate is recommended. The pH of the soil should vary between 5.8 and 7.2.

– The strawberries must be planted so that they appear at ground level, but without protruding too much and with the roots well buried.

– Never cut the roots of seedlings. If they are too long you can fold them.
