This is a good idea to reuse bottles and create a beautiful decorative element. You only have to follow three simple steps. Plus, all the materials are easy to come by, which is why it’s a great project to do with kids too!
The finished bottles will look great when placed near a window or somewhere else where they get a lot of light. Shake them and watch the magic float away.
Materials
– A transparent bottle: if you are going to reuse it, make sure to wash it and dry it well before you start. It can be plastic or glass. It is important that it has a screw cap or an airtight cork.
– Water
– Glycerin: you can get it at the pharmacy. You can also substitute baby oil, but this won’t work as well.
– Sequins, plastic beads, glitter: you can use anything that sparkles and is light enough to float. If you are going to work with children, be careful with glitter. Do not let them handle it without your supervision, as they are in danger of inhaling it. If you want them to do the work, it’s better to use other materials, like glitter.
– A bow to decorate the neck of the bottle (optional)
1. Fill the bottle with one part water and one part glycerin.
2. Add glitter, sequins, beads, or whatever else you’ve decided to use.
3. Close the bottle and shake it.
As you may have noticed, the project is very versatile. You can try bottles of different shapes and sizes, with other materials and with various color combinations. The little ones will love playing with them. However, they will also look very pretty on a mantelpiece. Another good idea is to use them as a souvenir for a party or a special occasion. In this case, you can make small handmade cards and tie them with a bow to the neck of the bottle.
