If you’ve gotten bored with your cell phone back protector or if the one you have is damaged, don’t throw it away. By following these steps, you can give it a new look.
Materials:
- – An old guard.
- – Veneer sheets for wood. Choose the one you like the most. You will need it to be slightly larger than your phone.
- – Linseed oil.
- – Transparent tape.
- – A cloth.
- – A very resistant glue.
Tools:
- – A cutter or a sharp knife with a small point.
- – A metal ruler.
- – 120, 220 and 400 grit sandpaper.
- – A brush.
Instructions:Place the old protector on a piece of paper to make a mold. If it is one of those that come lined in leather or faux leather, you will have to remove this cover until you reach the plastic part. Using masking tape, tape the mold to the plywood sheet. When cutting, you should leave an extra two or three millimeters on each side in case you make a mistake. To do this job, lay the sheet down on thicker wood. This will help you not break the material. Very carefully, sand the edges to sharpen them and the corners to round them. If you apply too much pressure, you will break the foil. Apply a thin, even layer of glue over your old bumper. Place the cut sheet of wood on top. When it has dried, sand to neaten it up. Start with 120-grit sandpaper to remove any glue that has come off the sides and larger pieces of wood. Then use a 200 grit and then a 400 grit. Moisten the wood using a cloth. This will cause the chips to stick out. Then sand again with the 400 grit paper until smooth. For the finish, use linseed oil. Using the brush, apply a generous first coat. Let it sit for 10 minutes and wipe off the excess with a clean cotton cloth. Then let it dry for an hour in a warm place. Apply a second light coat and let it dry for 15 minutes. To smooth the surface, rub it with a clean cotton cloth until you can no longer feel the brush strokes.

- Do not apply the protector on your phone until the glue is completely dry.
- Keep in mind that wood veneer sheets are not very flexible. However, this will depend on the type of wood you use.
