If you have a small patio, garden, balcony or terrace and you want to fill it with color, joy and life… You will love this project!
You will be able to learn a way to build a stepped vertical garden using a simple wooden structure, containers and the plants that you like the most.
If you are thinking of cultivating, and you think that you lack space to do so, this idea can also serve you. You will be able to make the most of the space and also create a structure that will stand out in any outdoor space.
Dare to do it!
- 2 stair platforms with 5 steps (you can build them yourself too!)
- 5 rectangular containers
- 1 plywood board 2″ x 4″ x 12″
- Drill
- saw
- 4 bolts
- 4 nuts (5/16)
- 8 washers (5/16)
- 20 bolts and washers of the same size
- 8 additional screws
Process
1. Cut the 2″ x 4″ x 12″ plywood into three pieces: two to form the vertical supports of the ladder and one to stabilize the back, joining both posts together at the top of the structure.
Note: The feet measure about 50.5 inches each, and the back support is 20.5 inches (which is the length of the pots).
2. Drill two holes in each upright and the wooden step platform on each side, and attach with bolts and washers. Do the same on both sides.
Note: The wooden structure for the ladder can also be cut by yourself if you take good measurements of the width of your pots and the interval between each step. But you can also send it to be cut at a nearby lumberyard or carpentry.
3. Now also join the upper rear board, which acts as a back support to provide greater stability to the structure. Try before, check that the width is equal to that of your pots. Use 4 screws on each side to secure well.
4. Attach each pot to the structure, and also make some additional holes in the bottom so that, when planting, they drain well.
5. Cover each pot with small rocks and soil, and plant whatever you like!
Put it where you want and enjoy your outdoor space.
