If you want to check at home why renewable energies are an option to carry out our most daily tasks in a more sustainable way, you can learn how to carry out this project from which you can take advantage of sunlight to cook your favorite foods.
With a simple thermally insulated pizza box you can capture the sun’s rays and keep the interior warm. Try this project with the little ones and teach them the keys to a friendlier world!
Materials
– A box of pizza
– Foil
– black paper
– Cling film or plastic wrap
– Rule
– Pencil
– Cutter or scissors
– Scotch tape
Process
1. Take the closed pizza box and draw a square with a pencil, leaving about an inch from the edge.
2. With scissors or a box cutter, cut the square you have drawn along the edges and the front, leaving the opposite side of where you would usually open the box, uncut. In this way, when you lift the cardboard you will have a kind of flap, as you can see in the photograph.
3. Cover the inside of the flap that has been formed with aluminum foil, trying to keep it with as few wrinkles as possible. As aluminum is a material that takes a long time to degrade in the environment, you can reuse food trays made with it for this project, and thus prevent them from ending up in the trash. Use masking tape to secure it to the cardboard.
4. Cover the bottom and sides of the box with aluminum foil as well. Next, cut a piece of black paper and glue it to the base.
5. Place plastic wrap or any other plastic wrap that you can also reuse to create with the hole left by lifting the cardboard flap, an airtight window through which sunlight will enter your oven. Secure it with tape so air can’t escape anywhere.
6. Put what you want to cook inside the box, close it and make sure that there is no free space left in its window. Then take it somewhere with direct sunlight and adjust the flap so that the rays reflect well off the plastic wrap (you can hold it up with a small stick or the same ruler you used for the project).
7. Enjoy your favorite recipes prepared in the sun!
