The rocket system, which is used to make stoves and cookers, consists of a system of tubes that conduct heat to a place where it is stored. The concentration of this heat, or thermal mass, can be used to heat a room or to grill food.
Here, you can learn how to make a rocket grill, but you can also learn how to make a clay rocket stove to heat a house or a rocket stove or burner to go camping.
Materials
- A foundation (in this case an old rusty plow disk was used).
- 2 steel tubes of a good diameter (about 15 cm); you can cut just one.
- Half of a steel tank of about 20 liters.
- The lid of a pressure cooker.
- 4 pieces of smaller diameter pipe.
- 2 flanges of the same diameter.
- 2 long steel rods.
Tools: Welder, angle grinder, cut-off wheel, safety goggles, welding gloves, hard hat, hearing protection, drill, and drill bits.
You need to know how to weld.
Process
1. First, get a steel base big enough and strong enough to support the weight of the entire grill. Any sheet metal you can find will work, but in this case a part from a farm plow was used.
2. If you have only one large diameter tube, cut it in two. The one that will be the entrance to the grill has to be the height you want, and the other (the food one) approximately half.
3. If the tank you got is whole, cut it down to fit what you need. Then you must drill the base with the exact diameter to fit the vertical tube. To cut the steel you have to use the grinder with cutting disc.
4. In the same way, cut and solar the pipes through which the heat will pass.
5. To make the lid, you can use the remaining part of the tank, or directly use the old lid from an old pressure cooker.
6. Stack the grill base, tube and body; and solder them all together.
7. The grill is finished (you need a grate to use it).
8. You can place pieces of sheet metal over the heat inlet to regulate it, and support the lid with rods to let some heat escape.
9. Small tubes held with flanges are decorative; you can add them to have a place to rest the utensils while you cook.
To feed the grill, place firewood, wood scraps, or branches into the feed tube, and light the fire. Add the material little by little.
Vegetables will be delicious in it!
