Materials
– A balloon (if you want a bigger lamp, it can be a piñata or a rubber ball)
– Vinyl glue or paste
– Kitchen paper
– A plastic cup and a marker (marker)
– A lamp holder (pendant or a floor lamp, as you prefer)
– Brush
– A round sponge with a rough texture
– Ocher and ivory white acrylic paint
Process
1. To start, blow up the balloon or piñata and, with the help of a glass and a marker, mark a circle around the knot.
2. Cover the balloon with vinyl glue diluted in equal proportion with water, or with a paste that you have prepared with water and flour. You can directly dip it, if you are using a small balloon, or do it with a brush part by part.
3. With the help of a brush, cover the entire balloon with pieces of kitchen paper. Add as much glue as you need. This technique is called “cartapesta”. Flatten the paper well with the brush to remove any marks or roughness. Make three layers. That will be enough to make it sturdy but not dull.
4. When the balloon has dried, paint your sphere with ivory white acrylic paint. If you can’t, you can use another shade of white, or mix it with a little ocher.
5. Look for a porous sponge with large holes, which will serve to imitate the surface of the moon.
6. Paint the surface mixing white, ocher and if you want gray acrylic, imitating the lunar print. Find photos of the moon for inspiration!
7. When your moon is dry, puncture the balloon and remove it with tweezers. Then place the bulb holder inside it.
And ready!
Enjoy a beautiful full moon, inside your room!
