When temperatures begin to drop in autumn and winter, many of our summer crops die, leaving way to prepare the terraces for autumn and winter crops that are more prepared to grow with lower temperatures and fewer hours of sunlight.
These crops, although they develop well, depend on temperatures that can slow down their growth. However, there is a technique called micro-tunnel or mini-tunnel, which gives us many options in the garden to cultivate and also the most interesting of all is that it is very easy to do and above all to use it.
Micro-tunnels are normally used in regions where winters are somewhat harsher, to advance spring crops, being able to sow or plant crops that need better temperatures in the middle of winter, but also to cultivate all kinds of winter vegetables, improving their growth and development by advancing in this way the harvest. In addition, we can also have them installed in spring, especially in more unstable climates where temperatures are low at night and with risks of frost, protecting our crops.
The truth is that the simplicity of these micro-tunnels and the few materials we need compared to the improvement in crop results is incredible, we need some corrugated rods to make the structure, although if you do not have access to them or prefer to use something more natural, you can use 2-year-old hazelnut or bamboo canes or any cane that is minimally moldable. We will also need a rope and a special greenhouse plastic that we can get at any agricultural center or online.
We leave you with the construction of the microtunnel explained step by step, you will see how simple it is to carry out.
